Thoughts on Fallen Enchantress after 70+ hours

So I've put in about 10 hours a day into this game since it was released and I wanted to share my thoughts:

First, I've found it quite engaging, and would be satisfied with the time and enjoyment I've received from it. My favorite mechanic is the hero-leveling and adventuring and have found that portion of the game quite compelling.

It takes approximately 4 hours for me now to get a band of 2-6 heroes (who I keep in a single group because experience isn't split) up to the mid 20s in level. I can then split them out and have them mop up the rest of the map with ease. This is playing on large maps and normal difficulty. Unfortunately, reaching this point consistently has kind of burned me out on the game, but I look forward to diving back into it after a few more patches.

On the downside, and as I've stated in other threads, this hero strategy which is so effective it completely negates the need for technology or cities. Heck, I play with a scholar hero and a race with +10% to research and use the fast research setting and I still never get to a point in the technology tree where it's remotely useful. Getting horses is nice, as it helps out my heroes, but regular armies are absolutely useless. I wish magic was a bit more varied and interesting. I wish technology at the fast setting moved about 4 times as fast as it does. I know the AI is going to get better.

I believe this is going to be a magnificent game upon release. Thanks Stardock!

What about trying a regular troops only game? I had some fun with this recently.

Yes, I enjoy the regular troops as well. I was kind of forced, having only one hero apart from my sovereign, and am having a good time, even if th eoppoistion is currently being waltzed over :D

End of quote

I think it would help if the sovereign and every champion gets one talent (+ 5 attack to all units if only one hero is in the party, + 5 defense to all units if only one hero is in the party, + 2 initiative to all units if only one hero is in the party or + 2 move to all units if only one hero is in the party) for free.

Split Exp between champions so the more champions in a army the slower they level. Troops would level like normal, sharing exp. Buff Troops

Maybe the devs need to add some traits like "Lone Wolf - Refuses to party with other heroes" or "Obnoxious - other heroes refuse to party with champion" or "Chauvanist", etc. Maybe the devs, through these traits or others, could add further personality into the game where some heroes can't party with each other to limit stack of dooms.

One hero per party limit, xp is divided amongst battle participants. Problem solved. Is now a reason to build regular troops and you don't get screwed over if you aren't able to snag heroes early on. Personally I find after gaining a few levels and picking up all the OP loot that my research doesn't get close to until the end of the tech tree I just have my heroes in one group destroying everything with ease.

Although this means you are not likely to get access to most spell schools, at least as long as new spell schools can't be learned on level-up.

Having played 70+ hours already, you SHOULD be burned out on the game. That fact that you think they can do even better is a warming one though :D

Disagree abt one hero per party. But definitely dividing XP should be in.

Champions are powerful and can wipe the map when correctly leveled. But that's the fun part of the game!
