[0.76] MUCH better

I have posted pages and pages of criticisms on this forum. After the patch, the game is MUCH better.

- I can't win NEARLY as easily, which is probably the single biggest improvement. AI's actually attack me. I lost 3 times today on ridiculous, which has never happened before.

-exp nerf makes the game much more challenging.

-heal nerf ditto

-tech pacing is better

-giving heroes injuries if they fall in battle even if you win is a huge improvement

-watermill nerf makes a lot of sense

I would say there are still significant problems in the underlying mechanics (city building, caravans etc etc), but the game is playable, challenging, and fun for the first time. I have found setting the speed to high, and resource abundance to low is the best way to play from a strategic perspective.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks.  I'm about to check in a lot of new AI stuff that should make things significantly tougher.

Next week I start on tactical battle fun. :)

You mean no more declaring war every time I see another faction?   :pout:

You guys are shoulder to shoulder with the best PC developers out there - Valve, Paradox etc. Its not often you see a lead developer take an interest in their own forum. You guys have no idea what it means (to me at least) to see you take an active interest in improving your product, and listening the criticisms of fans. Elemental was the first Stardock game I was unhappy with, and already FE is good enough I would not have regretted purchasing it.

I want to love this game, and you guys are definitely on the right track!

As long as we are talking about wishes.....

1. Flying creatures.

2. Non hero units that can use one or two magic spells.

3. More opportunities to raise troops of monsters to fight for a faction.

1. Flying mounts too :) Might be difficult with the current battle mechanics though...

2. I like that only champions can use spells, makes them extra precious and magic seem extra rare.

3. Especially Kingdom!

Yep, the balance changes and fixes are great.  In my experience it's more stable so far too.  Nice first patch :)

This is what the team did in 1 week. I can't wait to see what they do in a month.

There's a lot more to do.  0.76 is mainly about fixing bugs and crashes to help get stability there.  I did spend the evening (and morning heh) doing some AI and other tweaks while Derek spent his evening doing a balance pass. So things progress quickly. But there's still months of work ahead.

Wow. Thanks for the work, Derek and Brad! The dedication is definitely being reciprocated. Just the first patch alone shows you're listening to feedback.

I played the Arena quest - finished it - got lots of cool stuff, tried to save, got "Out of Memory Error".  I hadn't done anything else since I loaded the game apart from the Arena quest. :-(  And this is on Win7 64 bit with 4 GB of RAM.

I agree. Even though there are still significant issues that have to be adressed for the longevity's sake of the game (AI, city building, general balance), FE 0.76 is much, MUCH more fun than WoM ever was.

And judging by the changes from 0.75 to 0.76 the improvements feel quite meaningful compared to the updates in WoM.

I'm glad to hear that... please don't get an itchy trigger finger to release too early.  There are still a few things we need to make this a Metacritic 90+ game.
