Software Not Found (FIXED)

Re: 0.76 beta patch

Hi guys, I'm having trouble with the beta update.

Been running 0.76 for a week so downloaded the beta update.  Opened it up and got the following message from visual patch "Software Not Found - Elemental: Fallen Enchantress could not be located on your system.  Re-install Elemental: Fallen Enchantress and then run this patch again."

I really don't have to uninstall & start all over again do I?

Comments anyone, please?

Cheers,

Andy.

(By the way I'm running Win7 64bit)

Ok done a bit of digging on Google.  Apparently the software "Visual Patch" created by a company called Indigo Rose has issues with Win7 64bit (the 2.0 version does).  But the 3.5 version is compatible if you want to spend $395!!!  I have never downloaded their software, so why is it using it to try and patch this game?

Did everyone else use Visual Patch?  Because no one else seems to be having problems.  Just my bad luck - again lol.

Right I give up!  How did everyone else manage to download the beta update?

Andy, we are using the latest 3.5.something version of Visual Patch. 0.75 was the previous beta release (and then a private EXE update from Brad on the forums).

The patch is looking first at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Stardock\Drengin.net\ElementalFE (64-bit Windows 7) for a Path= value pointing to your FE directory. Which should have this file from 0.75: 1/18/2012  19:17      13,389,824  FallenEnchantress.exe

Thanks for the response Kris, but I'm still rather confused - sorry.

As I was running the 0.75 beta did I then need to install Brads private EXE before updating to 0.76 (via Stardock.com)?

Another thing worth mentioning is that whilst trying to download the 0.75 beta it failed somehow and I was not then able to reinstall it again.  I was forced to go back to a previous restore point in windows and try again.  After doing that it seemed to work ok.

Could some remanent of this failed install still be haunting my system?(even though I had restored my PC back about 5 days).  By the way I have installed the game to my D: drive rather than the defaulted C: drive.  It is very frustrating not to be able to try out the 0.76 beta but I do understand that it is not a completed product yet, so I may have to wait for the 1.0 version! (But hopefully not).

Cheers,

Andy.

PS - Just installed the 0.76 patch on my (crappy)PC at work and it patched first time! - Typical because it has onboard GFX and can't run FE - lol.  Well it does launch the game but the world map is white so I can't see anything apart from the UI - hahaha.  That at least answers my question about needing to install Brads EXE first (You obviously don't).

You do not need to install the private EXE first. The patch is completely independent of the "install" in that it only cares about the correct files being on disk to patch (at the location specified in the registry). You can move the files over from your other PC, though you may need to activate on first run (if you hadn't previously).

Thanks again Kris.  Unfortunately I have no way to move files from my works PC to my home PC.  I think I'll remove FE when I get home and try reinstalling the whole thing again from the previously downloaded 0.75 version and then see if the 0.76 patch will go on.

I'll post my success/failure (ever the optomist!) later.

Cheers,

Andy.

I am having this issue as well. I just tried uninstalling/reinstalling 0.75 to no avail. I can see the path in registry, and looks correct, except for the date listed (it shows the date it was installed)

Hi impinc are you sorted yet?

I have had problems in the past with redundant registry entries (from failed installs) stopping programs from being reinstalled.  Now although I will have a go at fixing most PC related problems (sometimes with the help of the wonderful Google - ahem!!) the registry can be dangerous if you are not sure what you are doing.  I have been talked through registry fixes before that involved amending the registry.  But this time I went back to a previous restore point on my Win7 64bit PC then tried to install again.

My problem was compounded I believe because of issues I am having with my Nvidia GTX460 gfx card and the 285.XX drivers it's using (being crappy).  They keep making my system hang and I keep getting black screens followed by a kernal error message about display driver has stopped responding etc...

I had 2 installations fail mid install due to this and the only way I could then get the 0.75 version to go on was to go back to a previous restore point.  The second time this happened to me I also rolled my driver back to version 275.XX which seems to be more stable on my system.  After I had rolled it back I put on 0.75 and patched 0.76 & 0.77 without any problems!

PC's can be real buggers at times like this when everyone else is running things ok, and nearly every time it can come down to something specific to your own PC.  I'm not saying yours will be the same as mine but are you having any other PC issues at the moment?  I can often tell something is not quite right when silly little things start to happen, like not shutting down or starting up from time to time.  I think most of my problems over the years have only been down to Nvidia drivers or on a rare occassion when a hard drive is on its way out.

Unfortunately one time when removing my Nvidia drivers to reinstall (on the advice of an Nvidia techie guy) it stopped me from being able to use my mouse or keyboard (even with wired ones).  A friend helped me find out that this was a rare thing with Nvidia drivers and my Striker Extreme Mobo!!

Sorry for the ramble, but maybe it can help you identify your issue.

Cheers,

Andy.

...Well since this sounds kind of like my problem, so I'll do the short version because the posting and not getting a response thing is starting to drive me mad. My F.E. is messed.  trying to uninstall the game leads me to "ERROR: could not access network location No$key"..trying to reinstall the game prompts an uninstall..once again bringing that goddamn No$key error to fruition.  So I ask, WTFF?

Juuuust want to play the game. :(
