I have a counter-counter proposal. You are only allowed to play the game while standing on your head. If you lose a fight, you have to burn your computer.

I will do this as long as stardock does not implement a redo button...

There is no right or wrong way to play the game. Look at two similar games in this genre, Age of Wonders, and Dominions.

Age of Wonders has very easy save/load capabilities (F2 and F3) whereas Dominions is basically hard coded as hardcore. Both are enjoyable. I'm always reloading in Age of Wonders because I see the battles in that game as a sort of puzzle.

In Dominions I don't have that freedom but the game is just as enjoyable because it scares you before you go and fight (and this is what also makes it an awesome multiplayer game). Now having said that I did build a little Python app to autosave each turn so if I really wanted to I could wind back the clock. ;)

If there were 3 settings in the options it would be the best of all worlds for me:

Softcore would be as the OP suggests with a do-over for tactical battles if you want to.

Normal would be as the game is now where you would need to reload saved games.

Hardcore would autosave AFTER tactical battles and/or at the start of the next turn (the game isn't stable enough to only have autosave when you leave).

I vote for this, but leave it as a option so the hardcore types dont get uppity. I'd recommend stardock not listen to people who are intent on ruining the game for a vast majority of people. Options are good, people being fascist gamers and saying there is only on way to play; the hardcore way is bad for any game and is not conductive to a successful product.

Repeatedly making hate posts is allowed in the forum now? Don't worry, I'm so quickly checking if there is Ignore option in this forum that you can keep spitting "fascist" in your postS as much as you want. And if there isn't, my eyes are bound to slid over all your posts like if they weren't there. Permanently.

When I'm a newb, or when I want to experiment with different ideas, a redo button would be great.  When I want a real challenge, then hardcore "no save" mode would be awesome as well.

I find it hilarious that some people are getting upset because some guy in another state may be playing the game differently than them .

There is no right way to play the game.

They are called Difficulty Levels. Anyone can experiment there. Experirments in higher difficulty levels? Can do too. Yes, you can play in other ways if Stardock offers you the options. Right way to play the game? There is. And that is according to the options given in the game. So if Stardock says "Hey, we add a Redo battle option.", then it becomes one of the right ways to play the game.

Calling "hardcore" not having the Redo button is silly. Elemental hardcore? Really? Hardcore is Europa Universalis. Hardcore is Shogun.

Adding "Redo" button to Elemental wouldn't make it "casual" game though.

Thats fine with me, I could care less about you or your opinions. I'd ignore your drivel too if I could. if 'fascist gamer' bothers you so much, perhaps you should try not being one.

Hahahaha! These forums are rife with entertainment. In any case I support this. In fact I wholeheartedly recommend this option as it will help brad playtest the AI much MUCH more efficiently.

Mabye I will use it, maybe I won't, but the option to reload already exists, letting people do it faster will probably encourage more 'reloading', and if that's what they want to do, who cares? I would only see this as being an issue if there was mutliplay, and I imagine it would be pretty easy to disable.

The naysayers should start a post that requests 'no reloads' at harder difficutly settings ;)
