[Suggestion/Discuss] Heroes are fine, fix AI

i believe that the issue is not with heroes being op, but with AI not able to use them. If AI could effectivly manage heroes and support them with good army - player would have no choice but to develop his army as well.

I am perfectly fine with heroes being much stronger than common unit as that what makes them epic and unique.

Well, the AI is definitely still in its infancy, and there is a huge issue with gaining xp right now.  Many things to be worked on at this stage of the game.

it would help the ai to use the highest damage to nearest enemy eg sov st 300 con 200 att 20 int 100(fireball 10 damage, sword attack 200) should bias to the weapon unless out of range of the weapon then and ONLY then use mana and the spells that give the MOST damage per mana,

BUT

at present the AI appears to favour the use of mana OVER weapons no matter HOW effective the weapons are, and with the slow collection of mana the wasteing of mana in battles is crippling.

I dont see how fixing AI will help the fact that heroes run over wildlife due to being overpowered.

@harpo that is an issue with the 'autoresolve' button exclusively and has little to do with how overpowered-or not the Heroes are, which is the crux of this posters concern.

I have however mentioned previously that the rediculously slow tech advances are part of the issue. Heroes can clear the map by about turn 200. Now maybe this is a reasonable period of time that the game is supposed to last, but if so the player/ai should be able to research equivalent army techs to match by this point, and create more than easily destroyed fodder.

However, maybe turn 200 is too fast and turn 400 or 500 should be necessary to kill the prevalant monsters. However technology is =still= an issue, as it is impossible to properly outfit your army by that turn to compete. Not to mention without the heroes clearing the area for new cities technology will advance even slower.

Heroes can't be everywhere at once, and if AI would have comparable heroes you'll have to choose either risk roaming wilds and getting that epic chestpiece or defending your cities.

The cool thing about this game is that since Stardock is actually a pretty big company, there are multiple people who work on this game and can do stuff with the different aspects of it. That means Derek can work on heroes (which aren't actually OP if you pay attention to resources invested) and Brad can work on AI.

They can if you have a caster with the third tier of air spells.

Yes goods to see more posts on the crippled AI, fyi there is a post already about the AI here. Perhaps the more we can bump it and threads like this one, the more stardock will see it as a definite concern to be fixed.

And that is what separate this genre of games from the straight historical.  Powerful heroes are kinda the point of this game, imho.

Speaking of problems... :p

Yeah heroes should be epic in proportion to packs of normal units, but to the point of normal units being completely obsolete?

As I said elsewhere, it's intrinsically hard to balance the persistent RPG aspects with the static 4X-like units that are trained in cities. I'm not saying it's impossible, but a real solution to this hasn't been found yet, and the balance of power between the two seems to have been oscillating back and forth. If I'm not mistaken (and I very well could be), at some point or even now in WoM, trained units eventually overshadow heroes completely.
