[Bug][.77] Delay when defending with a mounted champion with a shield

Just looked through the .76 change log, and didn't see the biggest bug I ran into this weekend.  When I have a Champion mounted on a horse with a shield, clicking on the defend button takes about 20-30 seconds before it responds. I noticed delays with unmounted units as well, but nothing like as long.

Agree. Only happens the first time during a particular tactical battle for me. I'm guessing it is a animation or sound loading issue.

Yeah, I can confirm this.

When you click defend on a mounted Champion or Sovereign, and move your mouse cursor, the game displays the moveable grid that Area of Effect spells show - only with all tiles blacked out.  If you right click on your Champion, it proceeds to play the Animation.

i click on the defend... and then it just sort of do nothing... but you can see all the other abilities are crossed out. (i guess that's the delay) after pressing a bunch of right clicks (on anything) and passes.. it all by itself finishes the move.

 

you can see a shield icon floating above the head of the units..

skill description says defend for 1 move or some such? but the thing is.. you can still see the floating shields on the same spot after the units have moved/attacked/etc for a few turns.

Still don't see this on the .76 fix list.  Just ran into this again this morning.  It's easy to reproduce, (I believe,) and really feels broken, so I would thiink of it as an important fix for .76.

Still there in .77.  I know there is a lot of stuff being reported, but this one is kind of ugly.

Bump.  It would be nice to get a response from a developer confirming that this one is on a list somewhere.  It's really pretty broken.

I had it happen with a mounted cavalry unit that I custom built as well. Essentially medium armored with a shield and defend had an epic lag time.

Confirmed.  It also happens with cavalry units, not just champions.  Just need a horse and a shield.

Bump!  Hope someone in development sees this.  I like to give units shields and use the defend option, and not being able to do it with mounted units is a real limitation.

I am suffering from this, and think it is not limited to defend only, have one save with a mounted hero with the auto cast Mass curse that never really casts.

She is riding a warg, so maybe it is comming from there? my champion with the shield is also fielding a warg as mount

will talk to our animator tomorrow about this, this usually means a cast animation is missing for a particular unit (mounted ones here)

I got a long delay when doing a Sweep when on a Mire Skath mount.  (So obviously for some mounts there are missing animations for special abilities, which largely function like spells.)

yea talked to our animator, he's getting this fixed... sounds like it's still not going to be functioning ideally in the next patch, however, no more broken/long delays
