[Suggestion] Bandit Nations

I think it would add some depth to the game if 1 - 4 small independent bandit groups would spawn throughout the game.  These wouldn't be small roving bands, they would be powerful groups with a leader that sends raids against the various cities.

The player could talk to these groups through diplomacy and pay protection fees (to be left alone) or even pay them to raid a neighbor.  Eventually when you have a large enough army the player can raid the camp to eradicate them.  There is a chance that they would respawn some where else on the map.

I'm finding that once I get behind the AI (due to poor planning or positioning) there isn't much I can do to other then get bullied by them.  Bandits would add another way for smaller empires to have some impact on the larger ones.

I really like that idea! It would be good if i can speak with that "bandit nations" any time, throught diplomatic channels (like with other civilizations).

Yeah, it would act like an independent nation that you can communicate with and have limited diplomatic relations with.  It would also be nice if the camp was "hidden" until a unit, scout or something stumbles upon them.  That would keep them from just being cleared out immediately.

A great way to make diplomatic capital very good for weaker nations. Great idea!

 

Also could be more variety than just bandits i.e. dragonkind and beastmasters, but let's start with the basics.  :thumbsup:

yes, the more unique factions the merrier (I used to go WAY out of my way to make sure the 'barbarians' in civ would take over a whole island for themselves)

That is a good idea seanw, empires could earn diplomatic capital by eliminating bandit nations.  (Build respect among the other empires by removing nuisances).  This will give them a bit more clout when they are behind.

(RooksBailey: Actually I have been playing a lot of Distant Worlds which has a good pirate system... makes me want something like that in FE).
