Once upon a time, the bloodthirsty Lady Irane was rambling about, killing everything she saw, when she and her band of noble rogues spied a quaint little fallen village in the distance. A smile slowly grew over her face, knowing she was about to give the order for attack. "Leave nothing standing," was the order of the day. She and her deadly band of Tatars and mercenaries flooded into the streets of this Resoln homestead, meeting uncoordinated resistance by a few men that had heard of her brutal exploits. In less than an hour the village was soaked in blood and kerosene. As the Lady and her rogues rode out to give chase to the cowards that fled, the pyromancer Natilya cast a spark towards the village, setting the sad settlement ablaze.
This act of war would reach the ears of Resoln royalty within the season. Now, at this time the Resoln Empire was overextended due to a decree that all able citizens should seek out usable land for settlement as there was plenty of land and the realm was rather peaceful. Lady Irane had sent out scouts a few years before and saw the Empire consuming all the land to the south of her single city. She knew she must act quickly to curtail this manifest destiny, lest it overrun the forest kingdom of Tarth. The next closest Resoln settlement was a village some distance east at the foot of a mysterious temple. Irane and her now merry rogues set forth to sack the village before any more armies could arrive.
Lady Irane expected her enemy to be out questing, oblivious to the threat of being conquered by her Cossack forces. This would be a grave mistake, costing her many lives and some repute. For, by the time she reached the target, her keen eye saw a small army marching to defend the little village. Could it be that her enemy realized where the threat was coming from and sent an army to reinforce her Empire's front line against the ravenous Tarthans? Could it be that not only peons, the strongest Resoln regular unit, but a mangy duo of heroes was within one season of securing the city? Not only did the Resoln have the foresight to make a stand, they had the gumption to call the Empress from her travels, redirecting her towards the ensuing battlegrounds. Could this Empire actually react to such a lightning fast attack?
Though the Empress and her troops were weak and underequipped to fight the Cossack heroes of Tarth, they put up a valiant fight, earning a place in the legends and stories of pubs and theaters around the realm. It is said that the Resoln would sacrifice ten men just to drain a drop of Tarthan blood on their soil. After the battle of that village, who's name is lost to time, the rest of the Resoln Empire fell quickly, unable to match the Tarth in battle with anything more that wretched determination. This was likely due to a lack of resources near their settlements. And so it was that the Resoln Empire died and faded into tales of valor in the face of assured defeat.
