Suggestion: End of Production Notification

Since there doesn't appear to be a reason to not always be building/training something in a city, there should be a end of production notification when the queue is empty.  When I come back over to my city from exploring and find that it hasn't been doing anything for I don't know how long, I feel like missed out which is no fun. This would be a great way to conserve the player's mental resources for actual strategic decisions.

I've started looking for the little Zzzz next to the city name. Those are helpful. Perhaps a single audio sound if one (or more) of the cities has stopped doing something. I tend to forget, which is why I'm upgrading them to do stuff when the production queue is empty.

When something finishes in production there is a little sound effect that is played and it will show up as an event on the event list on the right side of the screen.  Also, as frij pointed out, the city will get Zzz's on the empire tree (on the left side of the screen) when it's idle.

If the event list and sound aren't being apparent enough to the majority of players I will talk to Derek and see what can be done to improve them.

There is actually a reason not to build in a city. Almost everything you build has maintenance. If you build too much, you will run out of money.

I like how it is now, not too intrusive. You could put a selectable option for players who want more so that players get a pop up when construction is complete. Just an idea.

I want a better notification too. I'm not sure the sound is playing, because I haven't heard it at all. If it's playing it blends in with the background music.

Yeah, but there's no reason to not be building things. Even if you have all the buildings you want, you always need more soldiers. There is a building you can get from city level up that increases gold production when nothing is being produced, but I reckon there should be another building which does that to a lesser extent and is easy to get early on.

Actually there are a few improvements that provide like extra gildar or research ect. if the production que is empty. Though I think all those are special unlocks from city level ups.

I'd second the need for a louder sound (or one that works -- I never heard it) or other clear notification.

My cities constantly end up with no production queues because I miss the notification of reaching the end of production queue.

Never once missed the notification that pops up for production finished. It is rather easy to see.

Soldiers have maintenance as well. If you build too many, just for the sake of building them, you will have less of a treasury when needed at best, or run out of money at worst.

I vote for something a little more dramatic.

I found this out eventually. It was mostly the early game where this bothered me. I think an optional pop-up would be optimal. I would want it for the early game, but it would probably be more of a nuisance late-game on a large map.

I always miss this notification in WoM.  Maybe a little more of a visual flash, or a more distinct sound, or even the icon pops up in the middle of the screen for a moment then slides into place to the right of the UI.

While I am quite used to the WoM way of showing idle cities, I am totally prepared to learn a new way. I noticed that my cities get yellow and sleepy on the left when they are not producing. That is enough for me.

I too didn't notice the notification until I read about it here first.  Maybe the first time it happens in a game a box should pop up and say "Hey, one of your cities has become inactive" with a tick box to "Not show this alter in the future".  But, have it reset for each new game?
