Fallen Enchantress: Pre-Beta Ad-hoc video

As we close in on the beta of the second game in the Elemental universe (Elemental: Fallen Enchantress) we’re doing a lot of “play” testing.  With that in mind, here are a couple of videos of me playing with some commentary.

FE-Pre Beta part 1.

As has been previously mentioned, everyone who bought Elemental: War of Magic in 2010 will get Fallen Enchantress for free and get the beta added to their account this month.

I fully expect this game to give me worms and cause all my fingernails to fall out but I have to say, it does look good. The UI seems much improved over WoM.

Under the City Details screen I noticed you scrolling your improvements list up and down, but there's no scroll bar or other indicator that the list extends beyond the field of view.  How are new players going to know to try to scroll down to see what else is listed?

Other than the new UI looks fantastic.  Hell, the whole thing looks fantastic.

Can't wait for beta.

1) Stats window on character screen still the same...

2) Please, use colours in UI (to show good/bad modifier, ect).

waiting for beta..

Thanks for the big video. Loving the UI! (You need to show us a big battle before the beta launches, please). Can't wait to test!

Been so busy with SWOTOR I didn't know there was a date for beta. Can't wait to start complaining about bugs and indirectly contracted Yellow Fever. Both are pretty much guaranteed.  >_>

Lookin' cool!

The game looks great. I have a question: you said your champion left. Can champions defect or abandon players or did I mishear and the champion actually died?

I meant I only had one champion left. My others had died.  We're tweaking things so that that is much much rarer.

Cool. I think having the spells coming from champions is a really cool mechanic. It makes champions more valuable and makes magic have an added air of mystery; you have to depend on the knowledge of other heroes instead of researching them all like technology.

Wow that's a lot of pack drakes.

Loving the idea of defecting champions.

I like of idea of the spell knowledge being linked to Champions that you recruit. It really increases the importance of recruiting champions - and opens up the door to creating more unique champions.

I may try my hand at modding a Fallen Spider Enchantress Champion skilled in the use of spider magic, once the beta ships (I.e. a champion that knows a few unique spells related to spider magic: Summon Giant Spider, Web (to ensare the enemy), Spider Swarm to reduce initiative of targeted enemy unit, etc.)

I really think that "History" part of the Unit or Champions screen should be hidden under another tab. Maybe spells too. It would give you more space to nicely show stats and perks which are on the character portrait and also seperate them in different manner. Story is nice, But I do not think it has to be showed all the time. As Stats, spells etc are more important for actual gameplay.

Also, some simple use of colors in UI would help a lot. Blue, red, yellow would help to get info faster.

My biggest gripe, and its been there since WOM, are those small tiny, arrow buttons...You made great new UI, with huge buttons which are great to see and easy to click at. But you left this tiny pidi mini buttons there....Its not only hard to click on them, but also, I really do not want to click thru all the options to see what is next, like 20times... You could get rid of them completely and by simply clicking on icon make a list to pop up and then be able to mouse over or choose whatever you want.

Other then that, I really like what I see and I hope you will not rush it again and take your time to get this game right. Good luck to you :-)

Edit:

Ohh yeah, and those big armies on maps full of units looks bad :-). You should abstract it a bit, like show only 3 or 4 strongest units in a pack or so, and not with all the units, but just one...more info on mouse over or mouse click.

The armies that have a lot of  units in them look a bit funny on the strategic map.

Why not have espionage necessary to use to reveal enemy army stacks? Or even camouflage spells or abilities to enable units or armies to appear stronger or weaker?

Let's say 7 leprechauns marching on my capital and all I see are 14 Great Drakes of Doom approaching....

EDIT: I noticed that lake on map; are we going to see water units?

Water cities? Quest places etc?

Other plane? Underworld? Aetherworld (sky world?) etc.

EDIT2: Cities and their upgrades/building upgrades. I think building reasearch and upgrade trees should enable city specialization, so that no city can have everything on it. Especialy if cities are able to use local resources which should be in part instantly visible, in part researchable, and in part discovered with city/building research (like deep minerals, coastal riches etc

Having lots of units in a tile looks good to me, the map looks great with sizable armies:-)

Maybe make the 'max number of units displayed per tile' an option, to suit folks personal preferences?

You must speak louder and a bit clearer since it's hard to hear & understand everything you say.

With all the new cool GUI, why didn't you rework the spellbook a bit? Like... maybe having all spells on one page could be useful?

I don't see why it has to be a book, just make a list.

It's looking good :).  Quick question, will the beta be availble to download from Stardock's site or will I need to reinstall impulse?  Really looking forward to FE and hope everything works out well for Stardock in the coming months.

Right from Stardock either via web or the Stardock Central downloading app, your choice.
