Stardock Dips Its (Mistle)Toe Into Xbox Live-Elfsquad7 Now Available

Today Stardock sets out to save the holidays with Elfsquad7, a festive retro co-op adventure side-scroller (www.elfsquad7.com). Available now on Xbox Live Indie Channel for only 80 Microsoft Points, Elfsquad7 is holiday family fun at its finest as you battle to save Santa from Kevin, the evil toy-building robot of the North.

Stardock, a world-renowned developer and publisher of PC-exclusive video game entertainment, makes its first foray into the world of console gaming with Elfsquad7, aiming to please the masses this holiday season. Join up with friends and family members in a frantic four-player co-op as you demolish freakish “un-toys”, wrap presents and help Santa pack for his one-night journey delivering gifts to children around the world.

With fast-paced addictive gameplay, Elfsquad7 offers six different Holiday Heroes to choose from and multiple stages to master your technique – but make sure you do it quickly because time is running out to save Christmas!

“This is the perfect family holiday gaming experience,” said developer Scott Tykoski. “Stardock’s successes with mainstream indie titles like The Political Machine over the past decade made them the perfect publishing partner for Elfsquad7. I’m excited the title is on the accessible Xbox Live Indie Channel for families everywhere this Christmas.”

Assemble your squad today on Xbox Live Indie Channel! Download screenshots and watch the trailer at www.elfsquad7.com.

Bought it, and beat it on easy.  Cool boss battle at the end. Really fun little game.  I'm going to up the difficulty and go at it later.  Congrats man.

Boogie - I'd love to see some dev journals on this.  How long did it take?  What was it like to get this on Xbox?  Big hassle or easy?  Pros/cons of hosting this on the 360.

Damn I just got an email about this from stardock and i thought I was being spammed!! At least from this thread I can tell it was a made by stardock itself so I'm not too fussed about it all but maybe the mass mail should be a bit more clear that it was developed by stardock and not just advertised by them as it appears to be from the email i received.

Just my 2 cents.. (I dont have an xbox so cant try it out!)

Pacov - I was writing (and will continue to write) journals over at http://www.indiedb.com/games/elfsquad7...but perhaps I can sneak some info into an FE journal at some point. Basically I've been working on a game engine as a side-project of mine to...well...re-boost my self-esteem after the Elemental launch. With WoM, I've never worked so hard on something only to have it fail, so I took some of those extra hours of my life that I had discovered (we were working 80-100 hours, so working 15 extra hours ontop of a 40 hour week wasn't hard) and put it into my own stuff. ELFSQUAD7 was supposed to be a 60 hour test of the versatility of my engine, but ended up taking around 255 hours (assets took longer than expected and engine needed some work).

I wasn't even going to bother Brad with it...just make a small, polished game for the folks on the indie channel...but Brad really liked what he saw and offered to Publish it. When marketing is most of the battle on the Indie scene I couldn't say no to Stardock taking the PR reigns   :)

So there's the surprisingly long "short version". Check out that link for more details...it was a lot of fun to make, and I guess thats the important part when it comes to a hobby.

Agelian - Yeah, sorry that I didn't have it done sooner so PR had time to prep the message, but this literally all came together in the last week. Seeing a lot of non-Xbox guys out there, so we're going to try and get a PC version out in some form.

I just got it and will play this weekend. Only had trouble finding it with the new dashboard update (had to use bing to find it).

Awesome news!

The PC version of ELFSQUAD7 is officially and exclusively available through the fine folks at www.indieroyale.com!!!  It comes bundled with several other awesome games, and I think the current minimum is 3.72, so snatch 'em up on the cheap!  :D

Awesome! Pull some friends in... definitely more fun in co-op. And yeah, the dashboard is really painful on the games front (not just Indies...the marketplace is way too many clicks away from Home).  Bing search is nice though :)
