1.2c Feedback

All of the below experiences are from the first 50 turns of a game.

Pros

  • Better resource placement; they are more clumped together.
  • More notable locations
  • Good first pass of simultaneous combat. I can no longer solo adventure indefinitely.
  • Monsters are more aggressive.
  • More equipment variety in the notable locations.
  • Population bugs are gone from what I can tell.
  • Starting with 5 materials dramatically increases the amount of choices you have in the beginning of the game.

Cons

  • Lots of materials are found in notable locations. I have found several groups of 25 materials obscuring the effect my workshops are having. I would like to see material findings in the 5-10 range.
  • Training time for peasants, the base unit is 10. I really believe this should be in the 3-5 turn range. I have to baby sit my capital until a squad of peasants pops or else a bandit will burn it to the ground.
  • Some of the equipment found is too good too fast. I found a 16 attack scimitar on turn 20 of the game. Then I fought a Bone Ogre for a 4 attack +2 speed dagger (Verga's blade). It would have made more since if I had to fight for hte scimitar, not the dagger. I'm not sure if this is already done but it would be nice if there were "loot levels" so as greater notable locations appear, more powerful equipment can be found. The scimitar would be great for a notable level 3 for instance.

I am very pleased where this game is going. Keep up the great work guys.

I'll second that Jec!

Here's some highlight's of my 1.2c game after 150 turns (large map, hard, epic pacing, 5 opps, ceated Sov)

- Lots more resources.  1st City had Lost Library & there was another nearby for 2nd city.  At least 4 Oasis within easy range.  This starting position was almost too good.  The bad news was that there were no mines to be seen anywhere so I was always short of materials once I had a couple of cities up & going.

- No Heroes have showed up. Seems to me I usually have my Sov married by now & have at least 1 or 2 kids.  Maybe I just haven't researched enough on the Adventure tree yet.  Only needed Quests to use Libaries.

- Tacitcal Combat still a pushover for me & my Familiar.  Simultaneous damage does make me a little more cautious with groups.

- AI not defending cities on my Border.  He still declared war on me.  Not to bright.  I might have left him alone & looked for other areas to expand to.  Civ population went negative when I conquered his cities (more in use than total), but I can still build huts in my Capital.

   - Haven't seen any bugs or memory/graphics freeze-ups yet.  I'll keep the game going & see what happens.

Overall I think the game has gotten better with these 2 Beta's.

After playing for another 50 turns, this is what I've discovered.

pros

  • If you research "Quests" (or the kingdom equivalent), the new quest locations will show up in previously explored areas. This will inform you if you should go back and quest in an area.
  • AI is building groups of 8 as well as groups with full armor + good weapon. I had to actually use magic (Gasp) to weaken them before risking my champions (my soldiers are all dead, the trip back home takes about 30 turns though :)).
  • AI is specializing cities. I've captured several tech research cities which have mostly archivists. There will still be an occasional labor pit or lore shop as well as some 1 per city upgrades.
  • A lot more variety in loot from notable locations.
  • Creeps (bandits monsters etc) are slowly getting more powerful/grouping up.

cons

  • I found 1 more pop related bug (already in the support forum). If you capture a city, the population costs increase as they should (as if you built those pop scaling buildings). However, should you destroy said buildings, your pop only drops by 1. Razing the city will in fact rectify the problem.

I'm glad i'm not the only one enjoying this patch |-)
