Failed to download data file

Every time I try to play elemental, the dragon splash screen appears, it hangs for a few seconds, then I get a message saying "Failed to download data file. Please make sure you are signed in to impulse, connected to the internet, and that no firewall is blocking access to the internet." When I press shift + tab, the login menu for impulse comes up, and I can log in with no problems at that point. But when I press "OK" after logging in, it closes the program. Pressing escape also closes the program. Even though I am logged into impulse, and start the game through impulse, the game always starts up and acts as if I am not logged in.

 

I use norton antivirus, but have all permissions for both impulse and elemental set to allow. I have also tried turning the firewall off. I have uninstalled and reinstalled elemental completely. I have made sure I am signed in to impulse, and tried starting the game from both the launcher within impulse, and directly via the elemental.exe file. I have tried the various "tricks" regarding this issue listed in other threads, such as pressing escape at the splash screen, and that just causes the game to close and for me to go back to the desktop.

 

This issue started after an update that was released about 6 months ago. I have not been able to play the game for the last 6 months. I didn't post about it then because I assumed several people were probably having this problem, and figured it would be fixed in the following patches. It wasn't.

Afaik, that error only appears if you play the beta version and for some reason fail to contact the impulse servers.

Try adding /LOCALDATAONLY to an elemental shortcut.

Where do I add this /localdataonly tag? I can't add it to the beginning or the end of the shortcut path. Windows will not allow.

 

EDIT: Also, unless the "Beta Version" is the full version purchased through impulse, then that is not what I have. I purchased Elemental on the day of release, and have updated it as updates have come out through impulse. It played "fine" when I bought it. It wasn't until after one of the patches that this began occurring.

I am on 1.2b. However, I don't see an option to "show pre-release versions" in impulse.

I'm having the exact same problem. I've registered the game, I'm logged in to Impulse and nothing. I've emailed Stardock support and have heard nothing back from them. You would think that a game that shows up in Impulse as registered would run. All of my other Impulse games are fine. I  guess I'll try uninstalling/re-installing next but the thought of downloading the entire game again doesn't sound like fun. :annoyed:

Oh, you have to turn off "show beta versions" in the impulse settings and, idk, re-download the game i guess.

I did the same, however while i can play the game, i cant login to impulse from ingame, it says my account does not have access to the game, lol? Even though i just downloaded it via impulse.. Sigh.

Wow, the support from Stardock on this issue has been stellar.  :|  

Anyway, I uninstalled the game and went through the over 2gb download again. I only patched up to 1.2a and the game is working now. As for [email protected], I would recommend dropping the 'ignore customer' approach and try something different.
