Elemental: WTF?

A more appropriate title for this game

Ok, haven't played the game since December.  1.2 launches today and I rush right home to install and see if the game is good yet and . . . right off the bat a bug causes my hero to lose the option to equip when combined with other heroes.  Then, playing on easy, a pack of spiders kills all three heroes on  . . . turn 4 or 5 maybe?  I hadn't even had the chance to create a scout or soldier yet and I'm dead already?  On easy? This game continues to be a well of disappointment that I masochistically keep going back to.  Maybe this iteration is a lost cause and I should just wait for Fallen Enchantress.  I really, really, really did not want that to be the case.  <sigh>

I too have noticed that a leader (highest level/most powerful) of a stack of creatures is not allowed to equip items unless you move him/her out of the stack.  I guess I should have posted something in the bugs section earlier.  As far as losing all 3 heroes, did you autoresolve the combat or did you actually fight it out?

this was a bug fix patch mostly.  I'm on the boat for FE but EWOM i gave up on.  I still dont understand why there is no starting magic.  not even one spell.... and ya a lone wolf killing me on turn 4-5 is still not ok, in any game.  Anyways... there's a lot of cool games coming out this year so dont get to upset.

The kindly game designers send you naked and unarmed into a cold and hostile world. I highly recommend the mod Murteas' Grimoire which gives you a low level but decent staff and an arcane arrow spell that gives you a ranged attack. With that, my sovereign can more than hold her own against roving monsters and even kick rival faction's ass playing solo at challenging level once I got the hang of maneuvering in combat.

then design your own hero with some armor and viola you wont die on turn 4 or 5

as for the equip thing, i havent had that issue.

Agree. Grimoire's mod is extremely helpful. Alas, the slow end turn/tactical lag/intermittent freezes diminish this benefit.

Hmm... it is working for me.  The only case I can find where I have a sovereign/champion that can't equip (ie: the equip button is greyed out) is when they don't have any new equipment to equip.  If anyone can provide a save I'm glad to check it out.

I just killed the first wolf on Maggie's quest. I started to fight the 3 wolves and third turn into the tactical it slowed way down. I had to auto resolve to get out. Then as the turn ended on the main screen it went into the slow motion mode. Hope this helps. Thanks!

Ya I know... but I dont want to sacrifice player stats so I can have a club just so i can wonder around for the first 30+ tuns and then toss it.  It's dumb.  Thats just me though, and I dont want to beat a dead horse because I know this has been talked about before.

The alternative is just buy a club from the shop right after you've founded your first city

That's what I do. I roleplay that all my sovereigns and champions ran track in high school.

Yea, my big, bad ass Soverign has to run away from a group of tiny spiders or a few bandits.

But, you can research technology!  Then you can exchange your small stick (club) or long stick(staff) for a breakthrough in stick technology, the pointed stick!!!!!   The spear, aka pointy stick will give you a big advantage of the barbarians with their blunt sticks...unless they do more research and get theSUPER STICK!!!!  aka the War Staff.  What the fuck!!!  I invinted making sticks sharp and pointy and am being out done by a non pointy stick now?  I will never understand technology...

He is, he's a channeler, his power changes the land around him by bring it back to life, people flock to him and start a nation, he IS a bad ass.  Or at least, should be.

before the bronze age there was the stone age, and before that there was the stick age

counteless cave paintings show our ancestors chasing the swarg armed only with sticks

sadly many of them died in the process, prehistory in games is a tough period

QFT.

Luckily as soon as you build a town it immediately has a weapon shop featuring cutting edge stick techology. So you can get your early stick fairly easily.

People ... you don't understand... they forgot the magic, EVERYTHING!!!

It's a common scenario, an established cliche. Remember all those amnesiac thrillers, when the hero awakens in a lunatic asylum and doesn't remember anything. First he only screams and howls, clawing the padded walls, the orderlies come to sedate him, he manages to fight them of barehanded, runs away, grabs a metal pipe protruding from a wall, beats security with the pipe, gets their guns, shoots more security with the guns, gets submachine guns, escapes in a car, pursued by helicopters and SWAT teams, only to be rescued by a random busty female "resistance" member who explains him that he is actually "The chosen one" / retired ninja / celestial avatar / son of Satan / former karate champion / lobotomized Vietnam veteran, and that the govt was too afraid of him  to kill him so they brainwashed him instead. The hero remembers all his awesome skills, grabs his awesome gear that somehow survived it in a secred stash, and after a quick sex scene, he proceeds to plough through whole armies, leaving gore, skull splinters and blood splashes in his path.

But remember... IN the BEGINNING.... he CAN'T do ANYTHING!

Derek, I was able to reproduce an equipment bug related to the saving of the info card. The save and steps to reproduce are in this post -

I don't know if CariElf has had a chance to work on it yet. When you load a save, the problem is gone so you have to make it happen. Since the betas are over, I've been using the popular mods and I've been unable to equip the sov and champions on a regular basis after I've saved the info card and traded an item. The weapon (or armor or equipment) will highlight as though it's equipped but it is not. The original weapon, etc. is still equipped. The only way to get it to equip is to reload the game.

If you reinstall the game make sure you clean out the additional data located under \users as saved data may carry over to a reinstalled game that could potentially cause problems.

I see no reason why having access to magic (but no real ability to make use of it yet) should automatically make someone a badass.

It's very anti-thematic having your Sov being a giant pussy.

LMAO!! well said!

Dynasty Warriors handled it well. Lu Bu knifes through like 10,000 peasants and you can't help but think: "Lu Bu is NOT a pussy."
