Can anyone at SD playing E:FE tell us if it's fun or not?

Because they have an unbiased neutral opinion, right? :P

They fully believed that EoM was fun at launch too.  Believed that it would get something like a 85 metacritic.

Considering it IS Stardock one guy might actually say something like: "I like everything but the magicsystem".

But wasn't that only Brad who said that?   Can't remember anyone else at Stardock saying anything about that.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who don't believe that everybody at Stardock thought it was ready. Just can't believe that. BoogieBac, CariElf, Codecritter and the rest can't ALL have been blind!   It just doesn't seem believable....

Like the Emperors new clothes?  Were they all just too afraid to tell him the game was messed up?  It is hard to believe that they were all blind.  But, now they have new people in there, and I doubt that Kael, Jon, and Toby are all going to be blind.  They will make a good game, I have faith.

Would you like them to do a full review or just do an "out of five"-type thing?

You know, any information at this point would be good.  We haven't really heard anything of substance since the release of how the game mechanic is handling weapons, speed, and tac combat.  It would be nice to understand what they're thinking regarding magic mechanics, city building, and a host of other things that we simply don't have any real information on at this point, other than "it will be different".  Some of us, heck, most of us have been here a long, long time, since beta started on EWOM.  I don't feel they owe us any information, of course; it's their game, but it would be nice to share some of the game mechanics they're working with.

As excited as I am about FE---I have to say after all this time I simply want EWom to be consistently playable. Am I a nudge/kill joy? idk. maybe. I am cautiously optimistic about something new when something that already exists is not quite what it should be. I am a confessed romantic and believe in a happy ending in this case (in the traditional Easter Bunny sense---NOT in the sordid sense that a wayward adventurer might find in the bordellos of the backstreets of Umbar  :O )

My faith in SD---secular btw---is  unwavering. I know that they will deliver....i do hope that it arrives before winter does

Given the number of people here on this forum who were told "you don't know WTF you're talking about, it's fine" when they said the game wasn't ready for release during beta? Yeah.

Any post coming from inside SD at this point on if it's fun or not is completely meaningless.

I bet Brad will say that he's not happy with the AI.  O:)

Unfortunatly, nobody on the team really got to put much quality time into playing WoM :(  I remember playing a bit and going "I want to play more!" but there was so much that needed doing that only the testers got to play full games.

Even if we got to play full games, by the time you're putting in 100+ hours/week on a project, your senses and perception of good vs. crap are horribly skewed (ie. you don't put those hours in without assuming it'll be worth it).

Anyways, to the OP, I know Derek has played a bit. All I can comment on in a positive light is that he likes the camera controls I put in :)  WoM had the horrible problem of diorienting users with a too-freeform camera. We've re-enabled snapback by default (which we had in GC2) so you always come back to an oriented playing field.

I also worked with Paul on the auto-scaling of units, so they're readable from zoomed out, and proportional when zommed in close, so that should feel better as well.

I'll leave Derek to any comments/hyping of the actual gameplay ;)

Not the subject of the thread but since you're talking about it...

I'd like to see implemented some 'false 3D' mode that you could activate just by checking/unchecking a box at launch or by a shortcut. It would block the camera into a view similar as in Age of Wonders, Alpha Centauri and other games like that, you would just use the 4 arrows to move the map. For those of us who prefer simplicity of play than 3D.

(Note: it's perhaps what you're talking about but as I'm both a non-English speaker and a non-geek...)

Thats about right. The current mode starts out isometrically the current detault angle and will snap back to that camera view after your done rotating around. I even think we're planning on switching the arrow keys to work as you suggested (in all modes).

The requirement for FE is that it must be awesome.  That will determine the release date on it.

It is substantially different from WOM though.  So far, quite a bit more like MOM than WOM was.

When will the beta begin for FE?

Who get's to determine if it's awesome or not? Please say the BETA testers.  :-)

I think  I  should be the one to determine if it's awesome! I really think that my opinion is the best one.

I'm all for testing FE if they'll have me. I sure hope I'm not blacklisted from all the EWOM posts - that would make a baby cry, me.

Shit, Lan, you should be the first one picked...well...second one picked after me for a beta.

I think you guys who play the betas have gotten a pretty good idea on the fundamental change in how our betas are done.

Look how long was sat with v1.19 (over 2 months) before it finally was "good enough".

Our games are going to slowly move more and more to the "Google" beta model where it's going to sit in beta for quite awhile, often with it seeming like it's "final" but it'll still be beta.

The bottom line is, we require that our customers know that buying a Stardock game means quality and goodness and War of Magic failed that test miserably. It isn't enough for FE to be good. It has to be so much better that even those who were really disappointed with WOM will feel like this made up for it.

I like the sound of that and I'm willing to harp and harp until FE is really good.  Who's with me?  ;-)

I invoke the Demon "Lord Xia".

Now the rest of us don't have to do a thing.  Let the harping begin. }:)
