Game just won't continue on to next turn

debug.err

I don't even think the debug.err refers to it.  I am sitting there waiting for the turn to go onto next turn and it won't.  It allows me to save.  Tried bringing up a prev. saved game and it gets to between 35-33 turns for Warfare or any tech for that matter and it just won't do anything.  It is really pissing me off because there is no logical reason for it.  Its like it just forgets what the hell it is doing.  I hit the end turn and it is like I didn't hit it at all.  I can tell it when I want units to move.  If they are in cities they will move just out of the city.  If they are out of the city it will mark where I want them to go but then not move them.

This is irritating because the game should have all of its bugs worked by now.  There was supposedly an update yesterday ironically on April Fools and now the game is just not working properly.  April Fool's jokes are supposed to be funny.  This is not.

My graphics drivers are up to date and fine.  I am running on Windows 7 home edition.  Fix the issue.

  • What version are you running?
  • In my experience what causes this is auto-explore on a unit getting all funky.I recommend the following:
    • Look for ANY units or stacks that look like they're running in place. If they are, click on the stack and tell them to Guard. It will override their current action and can solve the problem.
    • If none of your units are running in place, go through each one outside a city and ensure auto-explore is turned off. Left click on the stack, right click on the stack to reset the stack's pathing. If need be, tell the stacks to guard to override their current orders.

This usually solves the problems from my experience. I never auto-explore with my units because I'm a control freak (plus weird stuff like this can happen).

Well that fixed the last problem thank you.  it is version 1.19j.  I was getting out of memory errors before but those I fixed too somehow.  Now I am getting Call out debug.err  I switch out of the game to answer a instant message or do something else and sometimes it doesn't let me back in the game and gives that message.  Now I need a fix for that.  And telling me I can't not temporarily put the game on standby to do something else is the answer because most of every other game I can do that with.  And the ones I can't The windows button on the keyboard doesnt work at all so you have to save and exit the game if you decide to do something else.  that is fine.  Not convenient but fine because it doesn't allow you to put the game on standby.  This game allows standby and does this when coming back into it.

Any solutions for this one.

In the game options switch to windowed mode from full screen mode. That should help a ton.

Can you still scan with the mouse that way.  I have noticed in games similar to it it doesn't like scanning the map that way in windowed mode.

I don't think so but I recommend trying it to confirm.

You can't scan the map in windowed mode but at least it stops the call out error.  Now I am getting the out of memory error and I think because of the patch that you download to be able to access more ram for the game doesn't work with the impulse program.  And launching the game through impulse is the only way to get the achievements.  Or at least I think so.  Is there more of an efficient way to solve the out of memory problem?  I running the 1.19j version windows 7 with 4gb of ram and the graphics card can handle the game.

Hi - please check out these threads for some background on the OOM's. The OOM's issue are still occurring and Brad explains what's causing it.

Hopefully we'll have this behind us very soon so we can get to 1.3 and beyond.

so it is an autosave function causing it or the size of map or what?  Nothing was really clear of what was causing it.  The replies just said where they were happening but not how to fix it.  Some people said they were experiencing it less but there wasn't really a solution in there or if it just stopped.

Yeah it's primarily due to how the game allocates memory. It uses 50MB to save but the fragmented memory causes the game to exceed it and then crash.

the game last nite started doing some weird stuff and now it literally probably plays in non fullscreen how it should have done it the first time.  When I took off fullscreen to stop the call out errors it would still full screen and when I hit the windows button it would just bring up the taskbar and wouldn't have any errors.

Last nite it first had the game main screen all messed up off in an angle and then when I reloaded it again it still in an angle but it was like a page of a book and the open book was turned slightly away from me and to the right.  When it finally loaded halfway decent it shrunk the screen and pushed it to the left and left the desktop still visible on like the last 1/3 or 1/4 of the screen.  probably between the two.  The game tended to work better but I am wondering if I screwed something up in the settings or if this is really how windowed mode looks.  If It is I can deal with it, I just want to make sure that maybe for some reason before it was doing a  halfassed version of windowed mode and that is why task bar would come up when hitting the windows button.  I would really prefer to play the game centered in the screen but this works at least.

This causes somewhat of an issue though because the task bar is always there in game meaning that I have to click in the center part to get to the main screen of a character instead of just being able to hit the equip button.  Now I am getting the easy way to fix this is to make my taskbar autohide.  And turning off autosave works for keeping the out of memory errors for the most part but in order for that to really be efficient they need to fix the call out errors.

I would really prefer to play my game in full screen and be able to hit the windows button to briefly go do something else in mid game if I really wanted to.

I understand this may not be possible at the moment I just hope it gets fixed soon.

Does anybody have any incite on any of this?

Also lastly I noticed impulse is reading the version of this game as 1.19j[rc]  What the hell does the rc stand for?

Hi,

  • Not sure why the game is doing that weird video stuff. Just so you know, you can zoom in and out and rotate the maps by using the scroll wheel on your mouse. You zoom in by pushing up on scroll wheel, zoom out by scrolling down. You can rotate the map by pushing in and holding the scroll wheel and then move the mouse left or right to change the view.
  • The devs will have to answer about the DX errors. I've been posting mine in the support forums as they occur.
  • RC stands for "release candidate" which means it's the build being considered for actual 1.2 release.

You know what this is really pissing me off.  We can't have autosave on because it can cause an error.  We can't have it in fullscreen because that can cause an error.  So I just went through a major reveal of the map area and then in the middle of battle another stupid oom error.  Cause now I have to go back and do all that work over again because we cant have autosave turned on because it causes an error.  I am trying to work with you guys but this is ridiculous.  Its been out going on 8 months now.  Fix the game so we don't have this stupid crap happening.  If it isn't an oom error its a call out error or some other error.

Its a great game, I would just like it to work consistently.  It really pisses me off and makes me want to not play it until you guys have everything worked out.  meanwhile while I am waiting I feel I was jipped 40 bucks.
