Yes, I know Stardock is working hard to fix Elemental.  Great customer support.

Yes, I'm aware that the memory errors are going to be fixed in v1.2   Hopefully?  My save game every turn finger has got epic blisters.

AI improved, bugs squashed, added content.  All fantastic.

Yes, I know that we get the first expansion free of charge.   Awesome.

All of this is very good and Stardock is to be commended.   They could have just trashed this and moved on.

Yet, I see a bigger problem:  Elemental is not fun to play.  I'm lost, I'm frustrated, and frankly I have more fun playing Master of Magic & Dominions 3.

I want to love Elemental, yet it's fighting against me.  Even after the patches.  There's a great game somewhere inside--I know it. 

I see flickers of it here and there.  Glimmers.   But I really really want to like it.   And so I keep coming back, hoping it will be fun.

Part of the problem is: I don't know exactly what I am doing, even after however many patches there has been.   It's incredibly frustrating.

I've been waiting for it to be fun, but despite the improvements, it just isn't.  I have no motivation to keep playing, no one more turn feel.

So without boring everyone to death and complaining ad nauseum about every element, I have two requests/suggestions Stardock:

When v1.2 comes out, could it PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have an in-game tutorial?  A real pdf manual would be nice too. 

Perhaps you can show me how to play since I'm just not having fun trying to learn it by myself.    

As I'm typing this, I am looking at my 300 page Dominions 3 manual...wistfully.

Apparently they're supposed to be two completely different games. Read recent Dev Journal.  EWOM is the empire building goodness we were all wanting ('cept it's not good) and FE is something entirely different.

Then again, FE might be the best game ever and we'll all stop bitching.. until we realize we never actually got what we initially paid for, a fun, fully working deep game called EWOM.

 

Yes, "fantastically huge" content patch is, to me, a good start. Or just dump it now and make sure you get FE right because I'm 100% certain EWOM isn't going to get GalCiv type of support down the line, though I'd looooove to be wrong.

It's not that I don't think FE won't be good, I am almost positive that it will be.

 

As to what kind of game it will actually be, we don't know at this point, but I am afraid that it will be so drastically different from WOM that it may not be what I want, and that is a spiritual successor to MoM or AoW:SM.

Do you know how many of such posts I have seen? "Next patch will make the game fun!" I have seen them since beta! That's nearly one year! So, you understand that I have some reservations about it, that somehow the next patch will make everything right. What's different this time around?
