Desktop X questions

Lately, when using DX (I've got the latest version and am an OD owner) I've noticed a couple of problems requiring assistance. When using a theme (doesn't matter which one) and I unload DX for shutting down, my desktop background goes blank. Then, when I start up DX again, it'll go to the last theme; but, the theme isn't all there. I have to re-load the desired theme again! Why is this happening? Second problem. When in DX and I change themes, the MS Sound Volume is added to the sys tray; but, no icon is present and I don't have the system set up to show the sound vol icon anyway. It seems DX is just adding it whenever I change a theme. Why? Lastly, under the THEMES directory within DX, there is a folder THUMBSCACHE. It contains theme data of themes I've deleted. Why? Any help/answers to these problems greatly appreciated. BTW, the sound vol problem just started occuring after DX upgraded two weeks ago. Thanks in advance for any help/answers. Mr. Maggot

Within DX, I have ICONX set up to hide all but the trash bin. This is working; however, in any theme I use that is set up to SHOW desktop icons, whenever I right click on the trash bin icon, I receive only a BUSY cursor and then everything locks up! I have to do a ctrl-alt-delete to get to task manager so I can shut down and reboot, which I do. After restarting DX and attempting again to right click the trash icon, same problem occurs. Why? All else in DX appears to work except for problems noted in my previous thread "Desktop X questions" which I just sent. As previously stated, any help/answers appreciated. Mr. Maggot

Problems with things disappearing can happen if you use the workarea reduction option in desktopx.somehow when you reload your theme, the things at the edges just shift behind the viewable screen. Instead I used invisible bars and set them to appmode so that windows that I maximize don“t overlap with them. I even added a fullscreen on/off button that changes the appmode of these bars.
I also have problems with systray icons. for example i can not right-click the norton internet-security icon and the ati configuration icon as well. Strange.

Maggot, that same exact problem happened to me a while ago. I had setup a theme, then all of a sudden, when I reloaded my theme...half of my icons didn't show up and half of my objects didn't show up. I couldn't find a solution within DX to fix the problem and what I did was...

Go to the DesktopX folder, look for a folder called "MaggotTheme" or whatever your user name is, that contains the current theme you have, I deleted that folder, and lost my theme...but the problem never happened again. It's like the cache folder for your current theme and maybe something got screwed up there.

Perhaps someone else has a better solution, and maybe you can wait for a few more suggestions before you go and delete your theme...

Belsidaam: I don't use the workarea reduction option at all, never have. Thanks for your response though.

Hus: I've deleted files in the "thumbs cache" directory within the "themes" directory of the DX directory. Re downloaded desired theme from WC then reloaded the theme. Have to reconfigure for my use; but, now if I change themes, my themes show up fully. This occured following very last DX update (yesterday, 13 Feb); so, prob may have been a DX one. Still see problem when deleting a theme though. The "thumbscach" folder within DX/themes does not get rid of deleted theme info, doesn't update, so I manually go to the folder and delete the two files remaining for the deleted theme. As for the systray problem, still have it. When I change a theme, sound volume is added to the systray; but, no icon. I also have a problem with one program icon (max mem from analogX). The right click function doesn't work. I have no idea why DX is adding the sound vol shortcut; nor do I have any idea why right clik doesn't function for max mem. Guess problem with DX systray/DX. Thanks for all your responses though. Perhaps the gurus at DX will read these and solve the problems???

Maggot, the "ThumbsCache" folder is put there by Windows, not DX. It shouldn't make a difference if you delete it or not. The folder I was talking about is in your root DX directory, not in the Themes folder.

/Program Files/Stardock/Object Desktop/DesktopX/AlonTheme

Thats the path on my PC, just replace "AlonTheme" with your username. That folder contains your current theme that you are using. You can still try deleting this folder, and it might fix the problems you having with the theme, as far as the systray problem...I don't know what could be causing that, sorry. Also, I'm still using DX 2.10.014, they don't even list the changes in the .016 build so I don't think that would matter anyway. If you still having problems you can always try the Stardock Newsgroups or IRC, might get some more suggestions there.

Hus, thanks for the reply. I've deleted the user theme in the root DX directory as you suggested. No change. Problems with systray still exist; but, not having theme problems as before. I think maybe a re-install of DX might solve the systray problem. Will do that as last resort. Sent email to [email protected]. Won't get an answer for couple of days from them, so......
