[OOM 1.19f] List of things to do

I played the first time for month and would like to share my impressions. First of all here's the link to the debug.err: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6141154/2011_03_11_debug.err There was no dump for I had to kill the process while I couldn't do anything else anymore after hitting end turn on turn ~200. On the desktop there was the OOM-InfoWindow. Perhaps it had something to do with the jre-update checker that ran in the background. However, I played a small map with ~3 opponents on a quite modern machine and could only play for 3 hours. That's still far from good!

On the other side I have to say, that the overall impression of the game is much better than 1.1 or 1.09. Here is a list of things I still don't like (apart from the oom issues).

1. Mixing of messages (something I complain about since the first betas): Please control the UI in a way that the player gets the different messages one at a time and the ones that belong together after another).

2. In tactical combat it still happenes that the hits don't show as numbers floating from the figueres

3. After some turns the time to get from one screen to another (map to overview e.g.) gets longer and longer.

4. In one turn there were pictures of some units missing in the little icons of a stack. In the next turn, they reappeared.

5. I think after researching fertility the spell that does +1 prestige on a city suddenly was called fertility, too.

6. The text for ventri mine reads "Learn harvesting to build a mine..." so I thought I still had to learn harvesting. Only some turns later I realized I already did that...Please change it to the text most of the other places have.

7. I don't like the global population pool. With mana it's okay, but how do the people get from one city to another to work there?

That's it for now.

Okay, forget about 5) - I get this now - fertility of the people...

Here's another debug.err, again no dump. It got me in tactical combat, it was the AIs turn and suddenly it stopped after 2 of 5 units. I couldn't do anything, so I started the task manager and saw an info-dialog reading something like "invalid dx call": http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6141154/2011_03_11_2_debug.err

8. If you hover over the shard symbols in tactical combat it reads "String not found".

9. You still can't look into a city that gets a level (to choose a good bonus)

10. It's a pain to move a bigger army out of a city (too many clicks needed)

11. AI - I play on normal without reloading. The AI is doing okay, but: 11a) don't ever move the souvereign without enough protection through an enemy territory, 11b) buy equipment for the champions , 11c) tactical: if the one unit the AI wants to kill is out of reach of some of its units, it should make a better move than walking in the direction of that unit

[Edit] added 11 in front of letters

OP's 8, 9, 10 & 11c are long-term issues with me too.

When a city's level pops, that city's stats show up in the UI at the bottom-left.  You should easily be able to decide on which bonus to take from that information.

Oh, I try that the next time.

12) I just noticed that ~every child of the AI-souvereigns does have a blade named "Wrath"-something which adds +60 to attack. While I welcome the difficultiy for me I would think a normal gearing up or different names for the blades would be better.

13) I'd like to collect the gear of fallen enemies after battle.

They just love this weapon and spend all their money on them. The weapon can be bought at the store when you unlock it on the magic tree. I first noticed it when I married my son to an AI's daughter and she came with this sword. So ya if you want you can abuse this because the AI's think nothing of marrying off their daughters after spending fortunes equipping them.

Ah, okay. Than that's okay I think. On the other hand: blades with names should be unique or not?

13) An enemy of mine had a city that showed a really big number (lika a billion) of population on the info-card. On the detail-page the population was zero. So, I think you forgot to round in the code of the info-card or you have a problem with division of floating point numbers.

I can think of 2 possible solutions:

1) Implement something like an army/stack so that you can add and remove units from it and move it out of a city as whole

2) Add a button to the city that opens something like the "Select a unit of a stack for your spell"-screen where you can ctrl-click the units you want to remove from the city togehter
