newbie

I have been eyeballing this game off for quite so me time. I care for three children with disability so turn based games are ideal for me so I can leave them at the drop of a hat. I tried Civ V but it didn't have the attraction previous Civs have had so I thought I would move on.

I played through the Campaign no problem. It seemed very short and didn't really give me too much intro to playing the game. Thats ok I can learn on the go. I started playing the free style sort of game. The problem is I am getting a lot of crashes in the game. Is this normal? Different types of crashes. Is there something I need to do like a patch or something to get a more stable game?

What version are you running? (since you didn't mention it its hard to answer your questions)

Patches are via impulse so if you are still running an older version then update with impulse.(you can uninstall impulse after you patch if you want)

Crashes are far less common with the newest patch(especially compared to the straight off the disc version).. and they are constantly working on more patches.

The first thing I did was click the update option but nothing updated so I assumed I had the latest version 1.11. I downloaded the game through the site. It looks great although looking through the forum I am a bit concerned.

This game had a bad launch - the QA wasn't as formalized as Stardock hoped it would be.

They're working on a 1.2 patch that will be out soon and will fix a lot of the issues (Hopefully a lot of the crashes too). You may try to enable beta versions in Impulse and download the 1.2 beta (1.19d). Be warned that it's beta and it could make it worse so you may have to roll back and reinstall, but it's worth a shot.

Stardock seems intent on wiping out the OOM's or most of them on this patch so that 1.3 is a content/functionality patch instead of a back-end fix patch.

Yup thats the latest release. Its an ongoing process if your meeting OOM errors. If its other types of crashes then make sure you post your debug files EWOM creates.

I should have done that. Sometimes tiredness overcomes my brain process. I had no crashes through the Campaign so the basics seem to be fine. Is there only Book I in the Campaign?

Ya the meat of the game so to speak is the sandbox mode. Most of us view the campaign as a half arsed tutorial..

Unless you like Zen level pain, I don't recommend it, still going through bug hunts, and at this point shit is going to get thrown at the new release.

I was away for Saturday and played it on my laptop for most of the night, not a hint of trouble. My desktop which is a far superior machine is the one that is a bit buggy with this game for some reason. Not too bad though.

Zen question, "what is the sound of one hand clapping?"

answer:  "Half the sound of two hands clapping?'  Is that painful enough?  (smile)
