The bigger the better.

But, of course, there are memory issue, as you know.

I hope that in some future we will have the 64bit version

I always go for the largest size  Can't wait for 64 bit support :pout:

Larger than the default large. Elemental feels so much smaller than what I'm use to from the genre. The large elemental maps feel like crowded medium sized Civ maps and small Galciv maps.

I pick a medium map every time, specifically because of the memory issues. My impression is that I'll last longer before an OOM error occurs if I choose a smaller map.

I'd prefer very large maps. Huge... tracts of land.

Medium, but that's more to do with how the game plays out than something ideal. Larger would be better, I just hate the larger cleanup operations.

I also play medium maps due to memory issues, but the few large maps that I have played have been more fun (at least initially).

Large maps. I rather enjoy going a good while before encountering any of the AI. Give them time to build up and make a name for themselves before they find me and start demanding things of me because my military is deceptively weak.

I'd completely agree, except that my budget has meant I'm not running a 64-bit rig, so I'm almost glad to see that I can still play the largest available maps.

In GC2, Immense maps are my faves. I think they actually help the AIs feel more 'differentiated' because they have more room to play amongst themselves and it takes far longer for me to build up an even halfway decent picture of the world. Even before Immense maps came out, I favored the largest available even though it meant that I had to turn down all the graphical bling and accept that late-game turns took real time to process.

Medium. Larger is pointless. I can win or lose full or near full house games on medium maps without even seeing some of the AI's. Larger maps really don't offer me anything more. They just make kingdoms further apart so that there is no early game competition. I like fighting for territory right from the start.

I prefer the largest possible maps in my 4x games, but in Elemental I usually load up medium size maps as I feel it helps with the game's pacing.

I immediately used that tutorial posted way back about making larger map sizes. It crashed my computer so many times. :( I love The Real Faege (sp?) because it's such a large map with large landmasses and lots of room for expansion.

I remember the old Civ II WWII scenario where it was Europe only. The map was huge - There were so many cities and so many nations. When you played Russia, even though you were huge it took so long to mobilize because of it.

I want a map that is large enough to contain realistically sized continents with details that are comparable to earth. I wish the maps could be rounded so you could actually feel like you were taking over the entire world. Maybe add an option? :D Obviously just link the sides, don't try to turn it into a globe because flat maps are better for pen and paper feeling.

But seriously, I want something that is reminiscent of the epic sized maps of the Civilization II+ series, where having twenty cities barely covers a third of a medium sized continent. A map big enough that each of the AI factions can pan out before ever meeting each other and carve out large empires.

Epic should mean epic if it's in relation to size. Or if they added a separate realm or floating islands, maybe that would add enough more to the map that it could be smaller and still feel epic because it'd be like there were multiple campaigns in one.

i would like to play on x-large

but i play on medium becouse if i play on bigger map the fps get lowwer

Small because I feel it makes a slightly more balanced game.

Medium right now.  I would prefer larger maps if there was more to explore quest-wise and map-wise in general. I would still only use one to three other factions even on immensely larger maps.

In theory I prefer large maps, but in practice I play more mediums and smalls, because of balance, challenge, and pacing.

Large, of course. It's not a fantasy epic without a large area of play.

Hear that Fable? Big world. Not Corridors.

Medium or small with lots of opponents, mainly for the pacing.

I usually go for large maps in games like this because I like the exploring part, but walking around in a brown wasteland with nothing interesting in it what so ever is not my idea of fun.

Personally, I like a fairly large map, but I'm amazed at how many people like the 256x256 size that Elementerra allows. When I was making Elementerra and allowed them that big, I didn't think people would actually use it... I just wanted something arbitrarily ginormous so that I wasn't the one holding anyone back. The fact that some computers can handle it bodes well for the future of the engine in my opinion.

I just released a new version of Elementerra yesterday btw. It's so crazy revolutionary that it only barely works with the game, but it has some fun new features for Elemental. I encourage everyone to check it out and leave some feedback maybe here.

The largest, always. I'm lucky because I NEVEr run into a OOM bug since I buy the game (V.1.08 I think)

Small when in a rush. Large when in a mood for something epic.

I prefer medium, but that's really just my personal preference. :)

I prefer 128x128 large or larger and like 256x256, but as mentione byother posters the memory leak issue is MURDER, and I routinly get ooms and post them with the dxdiags and saves while testing on both 32bit & 64bit windows with each gpu manufacturer, but 64 bit with ati leak the most, but laa does help on 64 bit windows
