Can you fix the CSS to add a scrollbar so people with smaller screens can read the entirety of the quests? <3 Mine overflows off the top and bottom of my screen is why I ask.

Edit: And it just hit me that mine's still up there. I'm at work and chugged a monster this morning and I about had a heart attack. :D

Edit 2: Also, after you vote you can't review the quest you voted for but you can still look at the other four. And yes, I voted for myself. The others are great, but like I said before, I made my quest specifically to cause the implementation of quest-related minor faction creation, NPC interaction with the world (Though I didn't get to detail it as much as I'd have liked with 5k characters), a new semi-interior tile set for ruin-based battles, and just additional lore to the world. I know Brad and Random House fleshed things out, but I felt the demon gates needed some backstory, since the dragons had some. Yes, this is shameless self promoting. But you know you love me.

Since my quest is completely unreadable in that popup, I'd suggest reading the full quest here for those that are interested.

Yeah, thanks for posting the link to the full text of your quests you guys.  For some reason, the popup description wasn't working all that well...  Or maybe the problem was me(?).

Any way, I just voted.

Good luck people.

I've updated the site. I changed the behavior of the popup so you can scroll down to read the full description. I also increased it's width to make reading easier.  Apologies for the problems.

Note: If you cannot read the top portion of the text in any popup, please do a hard refresh (Ctrl + F5) and try again!

Good Job Bara, that's way better.

Some very cool sounding quests, cant we add them all?  :D

I'm with Katalist. Add'em all! (Send me the video card though :D ).

Will we be getting a bunch of new quests in 1.19 (1.2) or are you saving these for 1.3 or Fallen Enchantress?

P.S.  What is the next contest?  Lord Xia and I want another chance at a video card.

Congratulations to all 5 finalists.  These quests are all excellent.  Very hard to choose just one.  It would be great if you could use all of them at some point, after all, according to Frogboy's outline, you've got a lot of games to fill.

Was slightly tricky to choose but after 5min of considerations between two of'em I made my choice.

I only read the popups since 5000 words should be enough.

The ones I excluded (from first excluded to last) and why:

  • Til deaths do us part - I'm not sure I like the ability to get unique Firespells from a quest. It also has a lot of conditions. It sounds complex and hard to balance. I like the population sacrifice though }:)
  • The Rod of Mages - Standard comboartifact campaignquest from Heroes of Might & Magic III. There's nothing that stands out
  • Forces in exile - I like this one. You know what you're getting (you can check all champions/heroes stats and equipment right?) so you know if it is worth the risk and resources it demands. having to go to another factions lands first to finish the first part of it is also something I like since you have to take that factions diplomatic standing with you in account. Then having to do two other steps is acceptable. But you know what you get.

While I didn't like Til deaths do us part and The Rod of Mages, Forces in exile is good enough, though it loses out to the last two quite easily.

Finale

Dark Rising starts out completely unaware, like Diablo II      Then you get the Den of Evil quest from Akara who tells quite vividly about that evil place and asks you to go slay the evil of the underworld.

Anyway, I can imagine the epicness of the quest (if creatures on the map could make noise and stuff) where the forces of darkness starts quite small but quickly grows stronger. Too fast I'd say but we can't drag it out too mucjh! :time: :P

I also really like the camps spawning raiding parties. It should work like Master of Magic where raiding parties are spawned whenever the creatures within grow beyond some number. It worked kinda the same way in Warlords BattleCry III. Max amount of lairs that constantly spawn monsters was the most exciting game I played.

The quest could take quite long to do since it's described WAY too epic to be completed within two weeks or so.

I also feel that the quest could have more possibilities (like if you're an Empire):

  • Ally with the mighty dragon so she attacks someone else. Would require LOTS of work to make an alliance lengthy and reliable, like having Darklings & Darkling villages under your command, paying her once in a while and giving her a mate!   i feel that there needs to be a slider or something that shows how trustworthy the alliance/cooperation is so you don't wake up one morning and find your Empire burning, your Capitol sacked and your Darkling horde turned against you simply becaus the dragon "changed her mind".

If you defeat some of there forces first, your relations will worsen and the more you destroy the worse they will become.

Kingdoms, however....which should have a very hard time recruiting Darklings could kill as much as they wanted and threaten and bribe the dragon to attack someone else. This should include the ability to tell the Darklings to set up camps somewhere else.

That became long, but all things considered, I really like this quest!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Demon Lord is cool and plays with a classic story, the opening of something that should have stayed CLOSED!

I see potential for this quest as well. Mastery in Summoning magic could open the gate again and shackle the demons that pour forth. Perhaps a limited control over them. The magic that shackles them only work for x turns or something?

I dabbled between Dark Rising and Demon Lord for 5min but in the end:

DARK RISING WON! :D

I got one request though, Kenata. Change avatar!   Having some fuzzy monster preparing a toothbrush with glue or whatever it is while his sitting on the toilet just looks weird!

...Maybe I should have brought up this change avatar business BEFORE I voted for your questentry ;P

I voted for the TheProgress's quest.  That witch sounds hot.

(plus I liked the quest)

Me too!

I also voted for Sexy Witch Project (theprogress' quest)!!!

I wonder though if my sovereign will be able to have multiple wives?

It is only natural to do so.

It's actually the Cookie-Monster from Sesame street, and he's sitting in a public toilet booth holding in one hand a metal spoon filled with cookie dough, and in the other hand a lighter, the flame of which he is applying to the bottom of the metal spoon in order to cook the cookie dough. The scene is from "The Family Guy" TV series, and is supposed to parallel the actions of a drug-addict, as the Cookie-Monster had previously been placed in a scene where he is in what looks like a drug rehabilitation centre, for his addiction to cookies.

Hehehe, it's actually really funny when you watch it!

The next contest will be to choose a name for the Child-like Empress.

Or,

  • Design a faction.
  • Customise an existing faction to make it play and look unique.
  • Design a parallel plane.
  • Design a tech.
  • Define a new victory condition.
  • Spell Mississipi.
  • Submit a new monster.
  • Apply for a job as personal abused assistant to Brad and Derek.
  • Point out every particular difference between MoM & E:WoM.
  • Create a new interface designed especially for left-handed players.
  • Design carrot & stick AI strategies for dealing with other players.
  • Create custom flags/banners.
  • Design a contest.

Either way, looking forward to it. :w00t:

If the Empress is Child-Like, that means she's really an adult, but looks like a child...right?  I mean if I were to [CENSORED] her, I wouldn't get into any legal trouble...right?

For example, if you were British, it would be legal as long as you didn't take pictures of it.

Well, how did Gary Coleman handle this situation?

Btw, Child-Like Empress wants it bad! A name that is. Did you see the conviction and desperation in her tone, expression, and body language when she was pleading with Bastion? The way the scene was cutting back and forth between them makes you look at it quite differently when you watch it as an adult.

But boy did she make him say her name. :-"   (It's somewhat disturbing though that it also happened to be his mothers name :S )

I've watched this movie dozens of times, and never did figure out what name he is actually saying when he is screaming it out the window.  I guess I could google it...but that seems like effort, so I am going to assume he named her "Candy".  Yea, I think I would like to [CENSORED] a little woman named Candy.
