[1.19e] DECREASE in performance

[1.19e] DECREASE in performance

Unfortunately, I'm getting a significant decrease in performance in Elemental from 1.19.

Here is my dxdiag: http://pastebin.com/fQPzEkEt

My description of the problem will be vague, because I can't back it up with hard numbers. Menus and loading within the game seems to take much longer now, than in 1.11.

For example, in 1.11 I could load up the game and - once it started - press "New game" and literally spam the "next" button location to hop through the menus and be on the loading screen in a second. This now takes 5-10 seconds, with the FPS dropping to 0 for almost a second while selecting a new sovereign or faction to play as.

Another example - I would enter the game once started, after the loading screen. As soon as the loading screen was gone, I would immediately be presented with the world as it should look. In 1.19, it suddenly takes 3-4 seconds to finish loading when I am in the game.

Another example - switching between sovereigns when choosing one before a game used to be instant. Now, every time I click a new one the game drops to 0 FPS for about a second.

I know this sounds ridiculously small, but it all "adds up" in time spent waiting for the game to load. I build a city, every menu that appears used to be instant - now takes a second. I close it, the game drops to 0 fps for half a second.

In addition, the FPS of the game now appears to stutter frequently. In 1.11, my gameplay was almost completely smooth (with stutters only occuring when I switch between cloth map and non-cloth map). Now, these stutters appear once  every few seconds for no apparent reason.

I'm not sure what information I should provide that can help you pinpoint this issue, please let me know if I can supply any.

Your feedback is always appreciated, and you are scoring very low on the grumpy scale so no stress there.

I believe the delay you are experiencing is due to our memory changes.  Specifically we are trying to free up memory by not caching and holding onto these screens all the time.  We are still working on the memory and I'll make sure the Developer In Charge (i would acronym that, but it doesn't turn out well) knows about it.

Please keep telling us if it gets better, worse, or continues with future versions.

Don't know what this means if anything but I've noticed the same decrease in performance but occasionally it will speed back up again in the middle of a turn and then bog down again. Otherwise yeah, it's excruciating to just get through one game turn so I can save the game.

1.9b is a bit better then 1.9a for me. So it's on the right track....

While I haven't noticed an improvement myself, it is difficult to say due to the nature of the problem. Certainly, at least 75% of the problem remains in 1.19b if I were to wing it.

1.19b is a beta full of debug code, probably not even optimized for performance yet. I would not worry too much about performance until a release version.

I can barely play this game now, after a time it simply becomes so slow its not worth dealing with, granted I know this is a beta but I figured I would just let you know I am having this issue. :)

I had when experience where I equipped a helm I just bought and it took about 30 seconds for it to take effect.

The problem described in the original post still exists in 1.19c. Polistes, Berserkben I think you should make a separate post and describe what you are seeing in long games to make sure that they pick up on it (they might miss your posts here).

Still there in 1.19d... please don't let this go live ;(

I agree, that would be a bad idea.  Decrease in performance, not fixed, bad idea. :\

Best regards,
Steven.

Constant stuttering still present in 1.19e
