1.19 Direct X Invalid Call Crash
Caused by an alt+tab back into the game. Error box pops up, black screen hangs for a few seconds, then Win7 asks me if I want to kill Elemental or wait for it to respond.

I just got the same error myself. I had an error for another program pop up and take me out of Elemental. When I alt-tabbed back in it gave a DXerror box then Windows7 asked if I wanted to kill Elemental.

Chall T. Dow
DX Invalid Call when I alt-tabbed between windows.
Windows XP 2GB RAM.
After clicking okay ... Elemental crashes and I send an error report to Microsoft.
... Do the error reports to Microsoft do anything?
I'm still getting these errors in 1.19 as well. Here's my error log
In reviewing my crash log [see post above], it appears that the game is in part crashing as some textures and animations that are needing to be loaded do not exist.
For Example:
Debug Message: LoadHKB could not load file Gfx\HKB\Items\Armor\Fallen Armor\fallen leather armor export C\fallen_leather_left_greave_C.hkb because it does not exist
WARNING: (CXFileData) FindRegisteredMaterialIDByName could not find registered material with name 'blinn1SG'
WARNING: Could not find animation 'K_Wagon_Idle_01' in animation sub pack 'K_Wagon_Idle_Animations' for animation pack 'WagonAnimationPack'
Seriously, why do these problems exist this far into the game's development. Internal code problems take time, sure, but problems due to sub files not existing is very high school.
Well interestingly enough, I've had this problem as well after alt-tabbing with Elemental. However, I have also had this same problem with several other games out there, such as Fallout, Avp, and even StarCraft 2. Though SC2 it doesn't happen as often. And what is seriously funny is that on my old computer (that was 6 years old) I never crashed on those games, or on Elemental. I rarely ever had a CTD with Elemental, even after playing a game for more than 800 turns. Though usually after alt-tabbing, upon returning Elemental's graphics would be a little ..wonky, though not always. These problems are in my opinion, very minor. If you know alt-tabbing causes a crash.. avoid using it until the issue is resolved. ^ ~
Also, you may play the game in windowed mode at the same resolution of your desktop and it'll fill the screen still and play just the same. That way if you do need to view another window, you can just move the game out of the way and there ya go.
Pretty common when playing full screen in games to have errors and issues with Alt tabbing. Thats not to say it's not an issue with elemental.. just that if you expect to be doing multiple things the best thing to do with just about any game is play in windowed mode with the window size set to take up the full screen.
