oom occured at 1.28gb ram use with 1gb ram available zip was created

cleared ram not currently in use by system, reloaded elemental, loaded savegame played on

second oom occured at 1.28gb ram use also with 1gb ram available, zip was created, added dxdiag & saves

edit just read the end of the debug.err and there were over 4000 OBJECTS being destroyed with a reference remaining, and the crash is from failing to allocate 36MB during/just after a SAVE

Thanks!

Me and a few of the forum regulars have been putting together games like this that show how things can get OOM.  Jesse has been re-doing how textures are stored which will go into v1.2.  It will be interesting to see if this addresses it.

The 1.19 beta goes up this week (and realistically, Derek's betas are very solid, they're not like my betas).

frogboy, I have been posting oom crashes since beta 2, and I will continue to post them as I get them. but the reason I mentioned the RAM use by elemental at crash is that 1.09 was ooming typically at 1.5gb used, and 1.11 typically crashes at 1.28gb, and the trend for ram use at oom is further decreases are the trend, can you PLEASE have the engine group alter the oom point to at least 1.8gb

I've been playing with task-mgr on a second monitor.  OOM at around 1.5gb on the current version, give or take.  Don't recall prior versions exactly .

That's on XP, sp3, 3gb ram, 32-bit, Playing largest size maps, with ridiculous difficulty, with FOW off, in cloth-map-only mode.  Loading a save in my current camplaign would start at about 1.4 ~ 1.3 gb, and I would die in less than 10 turns.

But turning FOW on reduces memory footprint by about 45%.  Since doing that, haven't gotten over 1gb, and haven't crashed.

I have been playing with the latest update and re patched with extended memory mod. It has been going ok but admittedly i never play too long without restarting the game. Without the extended memory mod, Elemental is unplayable for me.

What is FOW?

Fog of War.

If you have to ask, I assume it is on (the default) for you, so not the cause of any problems you might be having.

To turn it on, enable cheats, then press control-U while in the game.

To enable cheats, run the game from a shortcut with " cheat" on the end of the target, in my case  "C:\Games\Stardock\Elemental\Elemental.exe cheat"

I'm a bit confused? If it is on by default, then why do you need to enable cheats to turn it on?

So there is a Fog of War in Elemental, ok, but what effect does it have? Is it anything like the insane FOG in Alpha Centauri? Which forces all enemy unit to be invisible at all times, even when you can see them moving into the adjacent tile - they all vanish into thin air one after the other, it is crackers, and you can only see them if you try and walk on their head or build sensor arrays or carry long range radar.

Sorry, enable cheats to turn it OFF, so you can see.

and another OOM dump on the load of the same game, same system

zip with dump, debug.err saves

during this forty turns I had managed to kill of a second empire and ally with three other kingdoms.

and a fifth oom after loading a savegame after only 25 turns and there are 4800 objects being destroyed with with remaining references, and each of the ooms seems to add about 200 objects to the 'destroy, but can not' list. and had killed another faction just before(one or two turns before) the oom

zip was created, added the saves & dxdiag
