spells used during tactical battles

I'd be interested to hear what spells people use?

Is it just me or do people use blink, arcane and spell blast. I seem to either blink

around the battlefield casting spellblast. Or I get an earth elemental to do the aoe

spell. And that seems to be it tactically, not much variation :-(

oh and touch of entropy for high hit point units.

I'm playing on hard level at the moment.

thanks

Playing 500+ turn games, mana is usually plentiful, and the enemy Sions have ridiculously high HP. That time Ive used "Greater Grip of Winter" which freezes the whole opposition army, then I can whittle down their HP with my 4-5 companies of Archers. The Sions are immune to magic like fireballs etc, including the normal "Grip of Winter".

My large map games are usually 250-300 turns (Ridiculous or Extreme on the opponents AI).  I only cast heal, with an occasional range spell to finish off a fleeing Sov or his family.  I only see 44 level attacks or less with HPs in the low 100's.  High armor and First Strike usually carry the day.

I use the scalable direct damage fire spells if my fire crystals let me do more damage than arcane arrow or spell blast.

I use the scalable direct damage water spell if it does more damage than spell blast.

I use touch of decay, as needed, if the enemy is in my melee range.

Finally, I use haste / greater haste.

Heal, fire spells, and very rarely Blink if in the very early game someone's wife is inexplicably armed with a Cedar Longbow.

Otherwise, I put my faith in a massive hammer wielded by a massive bastard.
