Player difficulty level at world / game creation screen?

Not AI difficulty, the difficulty setting for YOU, the player

Hey all,

Its me again with yet another question. I'm curious about the player difficulty levels at the game start up menu. Novice through Challenging. I'm not talking about the individual AI difficulty levels, but the difficulty level for you, the player. That slider is to the right of the "World Size" chooser in the first world start up screen.

What bonuses / penalties do these difficulty levels do for you? More expensive tech? Smarter AI (in combination with AI difficulty level)? More experience to level up? Lower influence per city? Higher maintainence costs? And so on.

There isn't a game description of the player difficulty level, and I looked in the Elemental Data folder with all the "CORE xxxx" XML files and couldn't find anything except for the AI difficulty levels. So is the player difficulty level meaningless?

Someone already asked this and it was answered...why don't you do a search?

Umm, the search isn't working for me, and I don't want to go through dozens of pages worth of posts, thread by thread to find my answer.

There should have been a tooltip or something in-game that explains exactly what bonuses / penalties that player difficulty levels gives. Some critical options like these currently have no tooltips or pop ups so we're shooting in the dark here.

The UI for world creation should be on the select your opponent screen.

Also, there needs to both a global AI difficulty toggle, and randomize AI opponents toggle (like GCII had)

Oh a note also just because a sites search feature isn't working doesn't mean you can't use GOOGLE to search what you are looking for. I found those 3 threads within a minute.

What a helpful answer. -_-

Aye, that would be nice.

As for your question, afaik the only changes are the monster spawn rates and which ones do spawn. Ie. more and more dangerous one earlier.

Two of these threads refer to AI difficulty levels, which is something I already am aware about. I know what the AI difficulty levels do. I'm looking for the other difficulty setting- more specifically the world difficulty level. One of these threads said that it effects monster levels and "minor stuff", but I need more information.

Do monsters on Ridiculous level give more experience than monsters on Novice to scale up with higher stats, or are their experience payouts the same but stats are more buffed? Also, are there more monster spawns on Ridiculous than on Novice, or is it the same spawn rate but much tougher stat-wise monsters?

Finally, what are the "minor" stuff? Tax income? City maintainence? Prestige? Tech costs? etc.
