Let me, help you, help me, and me be lazy about it! (RE: Crashing!)

So as i tend to mention alot, i crash, all the time. I want to help you fix it, BUT, I'm insanely lazy, i dont want to click on a ton of crap to copy and paste dumps to the website, hell, as a paying customer i shouldn't have to even worry about crashes ;). But I LOVE this game, its addicting, and I tend to just restart the game and keep playing, i can have 10+ crashes in a sitting until i lose patience.

So here's the deal, as mentioned, I'm lazy, if you want me to post my dumps to the forums, prob not gonna happen.... I only do that when im alpha, beta'ing, etc. and as many crashes as i have, that would REALLY irritate me. If you make some thing i can paste a shortcut and then double-click, maybe even with it asking what i was doing when it happened, I would lovingly click (and type if that was part of it) that little sucker after every bloody f-ing crash, so you guys can get your crash logs :).

on a side note, well more of a bottom note, I have no idea how to post crash-logs,dumps, whatever, at this juncture in time, could someone please point me in the right direction, as i dont mind posting one, the (assumedly) lengthy route.

It really is a great game, and im excited for its future, but please for the love of god, fix the f'ing crashes, thats the only thing that would keep me from recommending it to friends ;).

1.2 should fix at least the oom crashes, just out of curiousity reading that you are extremely lazy, you did update the game to 1.11 right?

As a side note a crash reporting option like MS uses (and I believe impulse has too) would make crash reporting a lot easier.

I personally use drop box.. its free and easy.

Step 1 download drop box.

step 2 install drop box and get a free account.

optional step 2.5 Set drop box to not start up with windows

step 3. Put anything you wish to share into your drop box public folder

step 4 right click on the thing you wish to share in you public folder and click copy public link.

step 5 paste it to forums in a topic about your crash issues.

repeat steps 3-5 each time you have a crash.

Any time you want to share a file you simply start drop box. put the file into your drop box public folder and right click and chose copy public link and paste the link.

Since your so lazy ill give you the link to drop boxes site to save you from doing a google search.

yes im fully updated ;)

thats a viable way of doing it, but if i have to come to the forums to post dump logs, thats to much work IMO, especially under the previously mentioned circumstances.

Then don't bitch if they never fix your crash issues because they don't have any data to track down the issues your having..

Cause seriously not wanting to start your own dump thread and simply posting the links there each time is beyond lazy.

Its not like you have to post every crash til an update.. 5-10 of them should suffice as its probably one or 2 issues that you are constantly running into.

Short cut to your thread.

post link.

takes what like 30 seconds to a minute.. lol

when you crash 20+ times a day... it gets tedious. If even a small percentage more of the people that own the game started sending their logs by making it quick and easy, like windows does (that statement is almost oxymoronic), seems to me like that would be to everybodies benefit.

Like I said.. no need to post every crash.. the first 5 -10 crash dumps after a version update should suffice. As its probably the same issue repeating. The point is even if you only post 1 crash dump its more help than 0. Post one when you feel like it and don't when you don't. But the whole.. I REFUSE TO POST ANY DUMPS WRITE A PROGRAM THAT DOES IT FOR ME. is silly.

Your too lazy to post a few crash dumps but you expect them to write a whole platform into elemental to automatically send them in?

the point is, i shouldnt have to in the first place, I'm trying to suggest a way to make it easy for them to collect more data and be more likely to have people submit that data. Hell the last couple beta's i was in did something similar.

You don't have too.. you can deal with the crashes. Or you can quit being so lazy and post a few crash dumps now and again. I'm steadfastly against any automatic data collection.. and shouldn't have to open up myself to issues simply because people want to be lazy.

Not to mention dev time is far better going into the game rather than implementing a data collection service.

actually, it is easy... I tried to find the thread with the info and the links.. but I've had no luck... and my memory is bad...I just can't recall where those links are...  I remember Frogboy putting a link in one of his msgs... I though I saved the bookmark. arg.

As for "not having too at this point", your one of the few who say they are still crashing & often at that. I would think you would want to take 5 minutes to help fix that problem... (well 5 mins each time you post the crash dump thingy)

I'll come back & look for it again soon as I'm done eating

EDIT: Found it...

I'm not affiliated with Dropbox but everyone here shoudl definitely try it. It's a real game changer IMO.

EDIT 2: Ah, only after posting this did I read through the rest of the thread, I see it was allready posted... ops. Ok, then I got 1 last thing to say... hum Sound's like you need someone to light a fire under your feet to get you moving. :sun: THere you go... hottest one I could emote simply.

Why does everyone keep talking about dropbox? I realize it's the darling utility of a few influential people, but really. How about this:

1. Find a file hosting wesbite (there are about a million of them)

2. Upload you file there.

3. make a link to your file.

Really, was that so hard?

Actually, just after a crash, if you just restart a new game and then play 200 turns with autosave off it seems to send the reports automatically.

(Thought I'd troll a bit since I haven't time to be helpful.)
