Multiplayer: Cannot Save Game

I recently purchased 2 copies of Elemental and applied the patch (to 1.1 I believe). I opened the game, created a multiplayer game, and had my fiance connect. Without doing anything else, I hit escape, clicked on Save Game - the dialogs disappear (it does not prompt me to choose a save name or anything), leaving a scrolling background, and then the game returned to the world screen with horrible lag. Task manager reported Elemental jumping to 70% CPU. debug.err contains numerous errors: http://pastebin.ca/2037196

Any future attempts to save the game result in a "Failed to save game. Please try again." error - presumably because the first saving attempt is still in progress (I didn't do that in the above link). The game never saves, so when I return to the multiplayer screen and attempt to load the game (after restarting Elemental), there is no save file.

Not being able to save my multiplayer games is exceedingly frustrating - unless we leave the game open, multiplayer is essentially unplayable.

from what i understand of multiplayer the game saves to the stardock servers. i had some issues before when trying to play with a friend. that was a couple months ago. i haven't tried it since then. i hope they fix multiplayer save games as well, considering the scope of a large game.
