just purchased 1.1, runs incredibly slow

So I held out for a long time for 1.1, then finally caved and purchased Elemental.

Unfortunately, it runs horribly slow after 15 mins or so on my gaming laptop.

*Vista/Dual Core 2.1x2/4gb ram/GeForce 9800M GTS w/ latest drivers

I haven't had any problems running any of my other usual games on this machine - is the .3ghz I'm off on the system requirements (although I assume that is for a single core system) really that big of a deal, or does the game really run this poorly?

I turn everything in the graphic settings down until the game looks so bland I wouldn't want to play it anyway, but it STILL starts dragging as sono as I get my second city to the second stage or so.  Click somewhere to move and it takes forever, try to open a city and it takes forever, etc.  Basically, it plays like an online game would when suffering under serious lag, or like any game being run on a system far too weak for it.

Is anyone else having slowdown issues with a similar configuration, or found a way around it?  (Or, is my system just too weak?)

Does it work in cloth map only mode?   If you are still having slowdowns there, then I would say it is something with the computer, because cloth map only mode should work even for wimpy laptops.    Your laptop should run it just fine.    Send an e-mail to [email protected] to see if they can help (you may have to give them until next week to respond, as they are on holiday break).

I'll give it a shot now. 

I tried it on my hexacore 3.0/12 gigs/windows 7/ati 5750 machine downstairs and it appears to be running fine (up to 3 cities, on a tiny map with 3 enemies).

Update:  With cloth map only it starts chugging around 7 cities on a small map with 2 enemy factions.
