Creating a 'permanent' custom sovereign

Hey all, I'm one of those players that held off until 1.1, and just started the game again.  First game last night on easy, just to get the feel of it, and it's a lot of fun, tons of stuff going on!

My question:  Is there a way to make a 'permanent' custom sovereign?  I created one for my game, but then when I went to start a new game, he wasn't there at the selection screen.  I'd like to be able to make a couple of my own to use, and not have to go through the complete creation sequence every time.

Just as a fun example, I was using 'discworld' as my back drop, naming all the cities and such after locations in the novels.  I create a 'Vetinari' sovereign, and would like to be able to re-use it as need be.

I had that problem also, ended up creating 3 identical ones and saving them all. They didn't appear on the selection screen until after I rebooted the computer, then they were all there and I had to delete 2 of the clones. I think it's just a bug.

Thanks Trog, I'll check it out later today... maybe he's actually there after a restart.

check the my documents/my games/elemental/units directory and make sure that your sovereign is in that directory.    After you installed 1.1, it cleared out the directories to force you to re-make all sovereigns, units, etc.

I suspect this will keep happening in the future too. Some reported bugs/crashes have come from people using custom sovereigns and factions made in way earlier versions. Because of how Elemental works, that's a recipe for problems, as those older custom sovs and factions call on outdated stats and files. It doesn't say it with every patch release, but it probably should: always delete and remake custom factions and sovs after every update. You may not necessarily NEED to, but given how much stuff in Elemental is changing between patches, it's a good idea.

When you make your sovereign, make sure to hit the 'save' option and _then_ the done option, so that it saves the file for future games. It took me a few tries to figure this out. (I assumed you hadn't clicked save since it wasn't mentioned whether you had or not).
