Does the AI ever use magic? Tactical or otherwise???

Just finished a 1.1 game vs. the AI and it was a slaughter...  but still fun.  I know the AI is a work in progress and making strides.

However, I was disturbed that the AI never cast a single spell that I was aware of....  certainly not in tactical combat.

Is this normal?

They rarely cast spells in tactical combat, and when they do it's always useless crap.

However, they make much better use of spells in strategic mode. I've seen every kind of buff on enemy troops, even Death Ward. I've also seen the AI use call to arms. They don't go around spamming Curgen's Inferno or anything though, which is a shame.

The AI use tacticel spells early in the game, but late game it uses all its mana on city buffs.

I got hit by the arcane arrow a couple times in my last game.

Eventually I plan to take over the tactical battle AI.  Right now, I only do strategic but the developers working on that will soon be working on a different project so I'll be jumping in there.

I've been getting familiarized with the system. A few decent tweaks would go a long way.

Strategically, the AI does use magic, A LOT. Mostly for buffing.  I have also been working on it over the holidays to make them do more offensive type spells too.
