Demo ETA?

I've been talking about Elemental a lot with a friend of mine at work and wanted him to try the demo out once its released. I remember reading that it would be based on v1.1 but can't recall if there was any ETA given. I'm loving the private build and would be happy to recommend that he try the demo when it does come out. Thanks for everything guys keep it up!

"BUMP da :troll: on da noggin n' steal all da gold." (couldn't resist trying to be colourfull.. in no way am I implying your a troll, or anyone else for that matter^^)

but... they prolly should only do the demo in conjunction with the next major update so new players can get the best possible feel for EWoM. Just my 2cents ...

Agreed. I understand alot of people base game purchases off of demos and its been on the to do list for them for awhile. I imagine it keeps getting bumped down the priority list though. Which since I already own the game.. doesn't bother me in the slightest.. lol

hopefully not on 1.1, cause then the demo will crash lots and lots for you.... like the real game does for me :P.

I would imagine they are waiting till the game is at least stable to release a demo.

If ya won't post those crash dump thingies they need; "you're" constant crashing may never be resolved... C'mon bro, post at least one for Lord Master :wc:  Frogboy in the crash dump forum. Poke poke poke... Maybe your comp is  from some other D/L's... LOL (just kidding... a little)

Demo would be nice.

Could save a lot of time answering the 'sell me on this game' or 'tell me what this game is like' threads |-)

My voice at least is added to those in the "waiting on a demo before I buy" camp.  Obviously, you don't want to release a demo until:

  • You have the core game at a place that feels reasonable and decent to the customers who bought the game;  and
  • You have the demo at a place where it accurately represents the strengths and actual playing experience of the game

The longer it takes to come out with a demo, the less encouraged I become, but that doesn't mean that they're making poor choices, given the reality of limited developer resources faced in any IT venture.

I think they should put off making a demo until the game is as it should be. The amount of changes planed need to be implemented. And with an expansion on the way, I think they should wait.

How long should they wait?  The game changes all the time.  It's like buying a PC, you would never get around to it if you kept waiting for the next big thing.

I can't see why they don't have a demo with limited moves, it could be continuously updated to the latest game version.

I feel like the game has gotten stable enough to put something together as a demo. But then again I'm just a mostly silent observer without any real idea of what it would take. Considering all the other things going on with Elemental I could see why the demo has been put on the back burner. An update would be nice though, a Fallen Enchantress demo perhaps?

Says something about the state of the game if they're not willing to release a demo that they've been promising for six months or more.  ;)

They should really do a round of polishing the little things before creating a demo.

Let's have a demo of the demo!

Didn´t we just have a thread discussing this very topic?
I think to remember that a demo-version was not to be expected anytime soon, though I don´t recall to have heard an official statement.
Personally I would think that Stardock will fix the game first, and only after having published the "Fallen Enchantress" will work on a demo.

Kind of a waste to even do a demo on War of Magic now? I mean, I don't think that PR wise it can really be saved and kind of a waste of resources?  I'm not a business person though.  Just seem it's late in the game to try and get a demo out for the game.  But then again, maybe if you get a good demo out and put out the word that getting War of Magic will get you a big discount on the next Elemental games, that could put a huge jump in sells?  So...uh..shit...I don't know anything.  What a waste of a post I have created here...#:(

Xia, your posts are never a waste. I always learn either what TO DO or NOT TO DO - usually the latter. JK

update

Stardock's developer Frogboy has an interesting remark on the demo in EWOM public journal:

This week, Kael and the team are trying to get the game ready for v1.1. The demo version probably won’t make it out until January due to marketing considerations (late December is a very bad time to put out a demo because coverage would be sparce). But we’ll be putting up videos and such so people can see how much has changed.

I guess they didn't make January either. Maybe soon this month? I'm still waiting for it myself.

I figure once they're confident enough to release a demo, it'll be time to seriously look at buying the game.

Hell, I just want to make sure that it runs on my PC setup.  I'm not going to buy anything until I know that.  If this was any other company I would have already forgotten about this game by now.
