First time post...bugs, problems and requests

This game is starting to grow on me.  It is no Age of Wonders, but it has some good aspects.  And some bad ones.

Elemental:  War of Spiders.....the number of wandering spider armies is laughable, and wandering non-aligned armies in general are too many.  It is good for getting XP, but that is about it.  And why oh why, would spiders, wolves and bandits band together in an army??????

During my last play....one faction never left the walls of their capital.

Cannot trade, purchase or equip Journyman boots on the Sovereign.  Bug or intentional?

Faction variety.  I feel very little difference in the factions initially upon start up.  The techs make them different in time, but more initial contrasts would be nice...especially in unit art.

And my biggest problem and reuest

Settlement defenses.  Walls, towers, gates, moats, etc....   I do not want some abstract bonus to my units sitting in a town with an imaginary castle.  I want to place my units in towers, on walls, and behind the gate and make my enemies battle their way in.  I also want to have to work at taking a well defended town.

Hopefully we can see this as a mod or expansion.

As far as I'm aware, that is supposed to be fixed now with all Sovs being able to equip the +1 movement boots. I'm totally stumped as to why you can not.

As for all your other thoughts; well have fun scanning all the threads. :)

Happy hunting

Thanks for not flaming me.  I will peruse the forum a little better before posting.  Let's force them to make a good game, into a great game.   God Bless.

Amen to that. But I'd say it compares relatively favourably with Age of Wonders. The first one, at least.

This always bugged me until I realized what 'intelligent' meant to the developers. The wandering bandits have sufficient woodcraft and know-how to subdue and domesticate the spiders and wolves. They're no longer fully wild, but pets retained for hunting and battle.

That sounds like a lot of fun. 'Realistic' city building considerations would add another layer to the current 'just sprawl for the choke' dynamic.

About the journeyman boots... I suppose you are speaking about the journeyman cloak (as I know only about traveler's boots). I reported this here, and was given a workaround. I didn't try it yet, though, as it seem you need to start a new game before it is taken in account.

Defending towers seems a good idea to me, and you're right, the current way is a little too much abstract: If you can understand its effects intellectually, there is little emotions, and fun in a simple bonus. But that's the way it is generally done in such games, and it would require some work to change.

In Master of Magic, you had to use special abilities or units (like catapults or rams) to enter fortified cities, but you still could use only ranged units to defend. until the walls where breached. I would have liked special tiles from where any unit can fire standard arrows, and where ranged units have subtancial bonuses (like, flaming arrows or such).

I really think the Age of Wonders series really spoiled me in regards to this genre, and it is probably unfair to demand the same from E:Wom.  I can still hope however.

And I did mean the Traveler's boots....my bad.

I love your suggestions for city defenses.  bout the spiders, yes, many are trained by the bandits, etc.  But I do wonder why spiders are the only critters that are small on Terra but giant size in Elemental.  Spiders are not insects as they do not have just 6 legs.  Beetles and ants have extremely large populations on terra (earth).  Bot only spiders are in Elemental.  Would it be interesting to deal with giant beetles?  What about an ant colony near by, giant size, of course.

PS:  about the flaming comment... you don't have to be concerned about flaming here... it is VERY rare.  People here seem a more mature group than on some other sites.  I'm kinda shy, but feel safe posting here.

But, if you do flame, a plague of giant frogs will descend on you ... (SMILE)  JK
