tactical battle turn based vs. initiative

1.1 is ok, nice work, the game is on a really good way . . .

But i miss the initiative system in tactical battles, that would make the tactical battle more exciting.

I don't like the turnbased system (To tell the truth i hate it from the begining, so i am sad, that this isn't "fixed").

I would like to know if the devs intend to change this in the future, or it will be the same system in 1.73 either?

Any tip?

Or pleasa convince me, that the my turn/your turn system is better than the "heroes" system. I would be glad if i liked it.

The turn based system works fine. It worked out very well in Masters of Magic too. The real problem is lack of variety on the battle field (cliffs, boulders, etc).

I would rather it isn't "we go, you go".  Even in HOMM, creatures go in order of speed/initiative, and one player does not get all of his units' turns before the other, unless the other player has less initiative than even the lowest of the first player.

Best regards,
Steven.

I definitely prefer an initiative based system with the ability to issue some 'conditional' orders.  Details of this are posted in several other threads.

According to FrogBrad, the initiative based combat will be introduced in the first expansion. He said it is to work more like Final Fantasy Tactics.

I never played final fantasy - could you give us a thumb nail sketch of the salient features of its tac - combat system?

We need bigger tactical battle maps VERY badly. Right now its like a tease..

Age of Wonders had a nice feel about it, but with Elementals engine and design and look it would look Amazing!

Yeah, I think that this would be nice, but there are other things that could be done to add more depth.

Like charge for mounts.
Like a counter in spearmen.

Like dissociating attack speed vs. movement speed.
Like having armor modify movement speed.

I don't know, I think that even a cursory look at history would provide tons of ideas for depth. Simple.
Except for the coding.
