monsters avoiding the AI pioneers?

Are monsters aimed at hitting only the players and avoiding the AI?

I have see many AI pioneers walk next to 2 or 3 monster groups and never get attacked.  Followed by founding a city and having it unguarded with monsters knocking at the door and nothing happens.

I am curious to know if this is intended?  I know my pioneers come 2 spaces from any monster and they get chased down until they are swallowed up.  AI does not seem to have this issue.

I apologizes if this has been mentioned before.

Quite often i will walk pioneers past monsters and they will ignore them. I think that in certain situations, monsters are unable to see targets, for whatever reason. Its very strange behavior, but its pretty common, both for the AI and the player units.

I've seen AI cities taken out by monsters before, usually in early game. In a recent changelog it was stated that monsters are less likely to attack cities.

6 games in the last 2 days on the 2 latest beta versions. The npc's never touched the AI player cities or units. Only time they battled was when certain AI players attacked them along there borders.

As for the npc's targets for attack; it looked to me as if they would fix on 1 target then try to take it out... all the while ignoring anything closer to them; had a pioneer bumper chase a group of shrills chasing 1 of my caravans for a few miles

Yeah it seems the AI and the Monsters are on the same "team" so to speak.

I saw Kraxis eliminated* by "monsters and ruffians" in a 1.09t game.

* Only problem was that while Kraxis and his armies were gone, his city didn't disappear.  I had to "declare war" on ghost-Kraxis before I could walk into his empty city.

Another bug which works in the players favor is that the AI will not found a city if you have a unit within 3 squares of the pioneer.  I kept a guildar pioneer in a "holding pattern" for as long as it took to build my own pioneer and then move it to the site.
