No it doesn't.
Maybe you gain Powerrating but I am not sure about that one...
Well, to be honest, there isn't much under spell level 5 that is super compelling, either.
Would be nice if each spell level affected spell power , along with more modifiers from Int and shards. If spell levels did they could be similar to those end techs that boost x by 10%
It would be nicer if you just had to research enough level 1 spells to start researching level 2 spells.
In the absence of that, perhaps have spell level research dictate how much mana per turn you can channel (as a way to balance the really big spells like curgens inforne)
