I don't know when this started happening...

I don't know which update allowed this to be, but I have been able to play every_single tactical battle I have entered so far!  This used to not be the case.  I am currently playing on a system which does not meet the min specs.  So I am exceedingly happy that the tactical battles appear to be available for me.  The battles occur in slooow motion, but at least I can play them now!  Who woulda thought that a high profile game made in 2010 would be able to be played on an older system which uses an integrated graphics card!  Thank you SD for making this happen!

There's a slider in the options menu that lets you set the threshold of army strength that will trigger a manual tactical battle.

If you set it to 0 you can fight every single battle as you please. So i would guess the patch has defaulted it to 0.

I meant that the majority of tactical battles that I attempted to play, used to crash my under spec'd computer.  Now they don't :~)  Not a single TacBat crash in over a dozen battles.

whiteelk, I noticed a significant improvement from 1.08 in tac combat on a tower of mine that uses a geforce 7600gs.

I didn't get the game until Nov 1st.  So I haven't played any builds prior to v1.09e.  With version 1.09n I was still crashing more tacbats than I could play.  I'm not sure in which version this changed.  Once the new versions started spawning less resources, I found that I wasn't compelled to play as much as before.  I didn't mean for that to happen lol.  It's just the way it was.  We've had a furious flurry of updates lately.   I didn't put much time into some of the latest ones.  At some recent point, something changed because an hours worth of play this morning saw me playing through several tacbats without a single crash.   Kudos to SD for making beyond good on their promise to continue working on this game.   And double kudos for allowing for an option for those of us using older machines.  LoL ~ Did I mention that I am playing on a machine that doesn't even meet the minimum requirements?

I might have spoken to soon.  I've gotten the tacbat crashes again.  But something occurred to me.  Starting around v1.09p, I started purging my Race folder and deleting custom sovereigns before playing a new build.  A series of rapid fire versions have been released lately, so it might be the folder purges that allowed me to play the tacbats?  So I went and deleted my custom factions and sovereigns and started a new game (creating a brand new custom faction + sovereign).  So far I have been able to play every tacbat I attempt.  As luck would have it, I had Maggies Quest for both the crashed game and the non-crash.  My unit composition was a little different, but not by much.  I'd need to run a series of tests to wonder better.  But atm I'm wondering if deleting the custom factions and/or custom sovereigns improves performance.  If so, what other problems could the docs and settings folders be causing?  Is there some sort of leak or bad calls or something happening here?  Maybe this is a lead worthy of following?
