1.0.9r BETA - Anybody seen Janusk?

Possibly he has been turned off for higher difficulties, we can only home.

I have him in my game came right on time.

He appeared right at the start of  3 different games I played around with.

I haven't seen him even once since the Beta patches started.

He seems to be around for me.

I just started my first game on R, and no Janusk for me either.

I started a second game and still no Janusk...at last, not exactly. I found what's supposed to be Janusk...but now he goes by the name Vaenia.

At the start of each game, Janusk can use as his appearenace (and abilities) that of some Champions in the game. Most of the time he will "replace" Vaenia but he can take other appearence and abilities (as long as the Champion is male).

I tried a few times and Jansk appears for me (much as I want to kill him).

Shows up every time for me! I am with Derek, though he does give an income bonus when placed in town!

Does he not show up on ridiculous level?  maybe that's why.

I don't think he has to be in town.   For me I use him as an early game scout.  

Just played one v1.09r game so far.  Janusk appeared as usual.  But I've seen only one other hero despite having learned a hero spawning tech, and having done a fair amount of exploring.  Too few games to know if that's an anomaly. 

I'm also playing on ridiculous level.

I wouldn't mind seeing Janusk gone completely, he's the Jar Jar of Elemental for me.

A few patches ago I had Janusk and four replicas of Vaenia who looked just like him.  Does he still have the description for Janusk that he had before where they even called him Janusk in the description?

Btw, every once in a while I'll get a Janusk that gives a different bonus than gildar, like tech or arcane points, which is cool.

I knew what this was about, but I imagined a "Where's Waldo?" type deal where everyone was posting screenshots of Janusk wandering around.

That's an interesting bug...but nope, that appears to be fixed. The history labels it as Vaenia.

...still no Janusk, either.

I played two games earlier today (short games, I was killed by wandering monsters on ridiculous level,) and he didn't show up, so I do believe that there is some kind of bug here.

If you don't see Janusk in your game, please post your debug.err file.  Maybe we can find a correlation.

I think I have an idea what happened to Janusk, I had started a new game under 1.1, and a bunch of menus popped up at once as I went to recruit Janusk, I accidentally told him to take a hike.  I finished the turn, but had to turn down the graphics options since 1.1 reset them to higher levels.  when I started my next game, he was gone, and I have started two more since then without him appearing either.  Maybe a flag has been switched that doesn't allow Janusk to show up if you send him away once.  Just my thoughts but I'd be interested to see if anyone else has found a solution yet.

I've always had Janusk appear except for when I disable his advice.  It seems that if you don't want his advice, he don't want want to join you ;~p

I miss his variety.  For a time he was showing up with different talents.  But now he's back to being a merchant every game.  For the future it would be cool if he just started the game with the sov.  And give him different names, gear and talents specific to the factions chosen race.  Have him be the sovs number one... as Riker is to Picard, Tonto is to the Lone Ranger, Robin to Batman, and Ed McMahon was to Johhny Carson.  Give Janusk some character and make him unique for each race.
