Is there any point in researching the "new champions available" techs?

Whether I research them or not, the higher level champions become available to me if someone else researches those techs right?  So what's the point?

I belive that's changed.

You can only see high level monsters if you, yourself have researched the tech and as far as I can tell that's also the case with champions now.

I've seen higher level heros without researching a single tech for it.

much like my other comments on unique dungeons/resources... quite simply if heroes are not randomly generated and spawned (so there's an infinite supply), then they should spawn regularly, with the tech limiting who a faction can recruit rather than spawn on research. unlike dungeons/resources they don't need to be all spawned at game creation, because you don't need them taking out all the cities nor a whole horde of them.. even if they fight monsters or get killed by monsters randomly..

I see NPCS whose name is "Champion". I never research the hero techs but I cannot hire the generically named champion. If I research the tech, will their name revert to who they really are and become hire-able?
