Learning Spells

If you did not start with the spellbooks?

(This is 1.09p if that is relevant.)

I made the mistake of starting one game with a custom sovereign design without any of the spellbooks.

I played long enough to learn Arcane Mastery and Expert Spellbooks.  None of the spells that are in the starting book if you select mobility, combat, terraforming and enchantment, showed up.

Is there any way to learn those spells during the game if you did not check the box during character design?

I presume there is and I am just missing the trick?

Thank you,

Joel

PS: Keep up the good work improving the game.  And particular thanks for the very fast turnaround on the o->p patch.

At this point, I don't think there is any way to access those books if you don't start with them.

That really needs to change. As a positive, it would give us even more depth to the tech tree if we could make up for early game choices by researching them later.

I must disagree. Now you must make a choice between buffing your Sovereign in stats/talents or sacrifice some points towards spellbooks.

Edit:

to clarify, I find strange to have those books only at the beginning and then have no trace of them in the world... but at least they offer some choices in the creation beyond talents/weaknesses.

Indeed. When I said "It needs to change" I meant it's a bit silly that you can't later find them available in some Level 5 quest somewhere.

Seriously, you neglect Enchantment book at creation and you never ever EVER learn how to enchant, even after you are plucking unwilling vicious spirits of fire from the ether to inhabit bodies made of magma extruded from the living ground in the middle of a grassland? No +1 food for enchanted city when you are capable of literally exerting dominion over all sentient life on your planet?

I don't want those books showing up as first thing tech, by any means.
