Why can't harbors provide another source of food?

Why can't harbors provide another source of food?

With food sometimes being so scarce, and besides, it makes sense.

Perhaps if food wasn't such a limiting resource, we wouldn't be having this conversation. The current beta build is completely unenjoyable due to the need to literally count beans.
bean counting only in beginning imo--once you get rolling it isn't that much of an issue...

check out the post below--this guy seems to have NO issues with ANY resource.

Hey thanks i am becoming famous here ^^

Well i gave a long strategy post covering almost everything from research, food, gold, production, technology, troops, ai etc on it.

Maybe you can find some ways, ideas, views, strategies and others that can help you out, since i also give a solution for food problem along with other things.

Post is here: Game Strategy Post

Scroll a little down and you will find it at 10th post position ^^

Phylast really helped also addressing a lot of issues with game strategy, which helped me construct a nice abstract view to answer ;)

We had this in the beta and the problem is because of the way food is a key global resource, you were effectively making it so that players could conjure their own natural resources.

Food is a major resource everyone is fighting over.

BTW, we are eliminating the food requirement to build a city.  We have come up with a different mechanic to address "city spam".

Well i will be updating then my post accordingly when the new mechanism arrives.

Meanwhile thats the best i can offer them to get past the food problem and enjoy the game ^^

Althought removing food requirement from sttlement will certainly lead to 3 hut cities which will boost tech advancement much faster since they wont stuck in civilization research so much and cities will still have 3 food requirement but with much faster growth rate between lvl 3 and lvl5. Already got the idea on how it will work, just have to wait to test it out before updating ;)

Edit:

My recommendation idea is that by removing the food requirement to build a city will lead to a city spamming to acquire resources. Thats one thing none wanted to have as i think about it.

Thus i believe still having the food requirement in order to build a city, but since it requires 1 food to do so, then the city will be builded with one hut included to it. That will solve both problems. Thus neither city spamming will happen nor food shortage from building the city with a wasted food requirement.

City spamming for resources isn't  that bad, especially if there  aren't a ton of resources.  Those are just glorified outposts.

Will this new mechanic be in a future  1.1 or a later build, such as one of the expansions?
