Can't download Elemental anymore

New Graphics Card, new OS - no joy

I used to have a rig with Win XP and a GeForce 9600 graphics adapter. For some unknown reason, my graphics card went poof and I got a new one, a Radeon HD 5750. Along with it came a shiny new Win 7 64bit. Good news - Win 7 and the Radeon work fine. After installing Impulse and rubbing my hands in anticipation for the 1.1 beta, I wanted to download Elemental, but for the fourth time in succession i'm getting "the file downloaded is smaller than expected". When I try to install again, the progress counter goes up to about one or two percent and I get "Download Verificatino checks failed, press resume to try again". I do as I'm told and nothing happens. Cancelling and restarting the download is the only thing that helps, but then I end up with "the file downloaded was smaller than expected". WHAT THE HELL?

Turn off "show pre-release versions", restart impulse, download the non-beta first. Then turn it back on, download the beta.

Thank you, I'll try that. Tomorrow. It's past midnight where I'm at and I've spent the last three hours fiddling with Impulse instead of playing stuff.

Hey, if you sign up for betas, you get betas.

There's beta's, then there's stuff that just doesn't plain work.

Which can't be found out without putting it in BETA.

My wife had this problem, but when she went to show it to me it worked fine.  She had restarted impulse but hadn't changed anything else.  Let me know if you are still having this issue and I'll check it out.

I am also having the same problem. I am in the process of testing the turning off of "show pre-release" and restarting of Impulse.

Also, make sure that you are not just closing Impulse and actually shutting it down. When I close mine it just runs in the background. I have to then right click on the Systray Icon and then click on Exit to turn it completely off. Just a thought.

I have been having the same problem since last Wednesday. I have turned off all of my security software. I have done a fresh load of 1.09n( B ) .108 (which was a difficult undertaking in itself). I have tried the suggested trick of using task manager to shut down Impulse and reopening Impulse to allow the download to continue. I have cleaned my cache and reset the data of impulse. I have tried everything that I can think of over and over again. When I try to upgrade from 109n( B ) .108 to .109 I can get nothing but the "file is smaller than expected" message. Please fix Impulse or the file.

Thank you,

I was getting the same thing (related to the MVP AI build that shows up occassionally).    I eventually just had to turn off pre release versions and restart the computer  and then turn on pre-release versions and it worked.   However, now it says an update is available again, (even though I am at 1.09 n).  I'll just ignore it or I think I'll get stuck in the same cycle again.

I succeed in downloading the realease version, and then downloading a beta version.  At that point Implulse showed that an update was still available, and that download failed with the previously reported symptoms.

As of a few minutes ago the problem has bot been fixed.

Derek, do you think that there is a potential for fixing this today? Or should I just give up on attempting downloads through Impulse until later this week?

The "new update" was a junk file.  If there was supposed to be a legitimate update after 1.09n it wasn't put up properly, every post I've seen says that no one can download it.

Same problem here, 1.09e installed, want to update to 1.09n - "File downloaded is smaller than expected". If this is really just a "junk" file, how hard can it be to either upload the proper one or retract the update from the servers?

This should be fixed now.  Please post here if you continue to have problems.

Derek,

When you say the problem is fixed, did you mean that the 109n ( b ).109 update has been removed from Impulse?

Because it is gone. Was it an update posted in error, or will we be seeing it again?

There wasn't supposed to be any 1.09n (b) patch.

Fantastic response time as always! :)

Fantastic response time maybe, but at least one of the issues persists. I have been attempting to download the latest version for some time now. End of last week, the download would perennially terminate with "Download verification checks failed". I decided to let the problem settle for some time, figuring it  may be fixed by some time this week. I retried last night, and the download went smooth until about 1 GB, when I had to shut down the computer. I resumed the download this morning, and it terminated with "File downloaded is smaller than expected" after a short while.

I uninstalled Elemental, "Reset data" on Impulse, exit and relaunched. It was still showing the download of the update under "Downloads", asking me whether I wanted to resume (I thought that had failed???). I canceled it. Now I have the option to download version 1.09e (without "Show prerelease versions"), or 1.09n (with "Show prerelease versions").

To be continued when I find time to reload 2.2 GB (my provider cannot provide; at least not anything faster than 1 Mb/s out here in the boonies)

Last time I opened Impulse, the message for Elemental went from "Update available" to "Installed" once it had signed in, so for me at least, it's been fixed.  You can tell when a subsequent update is nearly as big as the full game that something is not quite right, and that's it's best to cancel the download of the supposed patch and wait. ;-) =)

Best regards,
Steven.
