[1.09n][UI] No way to cast strategic spells on party members without removing from party

In order to cast any strategic spell (ie Stoneskin) on a party member, one has to remove the target from the army, cast spell on target, and then reform army.

To remedy:

1) There needs to be a way that the little wand icon can simply click on any of the small "unit coins" to apply the spell

Reasoning:

Obvious flaw in User Interface

I totally agree, and I think a lot of others do too.  What do other people think?

Best regards,
Steven.

One way to implement this would be to have the spell pull up something similar to the trading screen, where you scroll thru available targets until you see the one you want to cast the spell on.

I suggest this method as the trading window is already ingame, and already cycles through all units/heroes in your square and adjacent squares, so it should be a little easier to implement.

Of course, being able to click on the round icon of said target in your stack to pick the spell target would be an option, but if you have multiple stacks in your square, this could get tricky.

Yeah, multiple stacks of multiple troops in one square could be tricky.

I think, therefore, that when casting a spell that requires a target you could either

1) Click the little round coin with the unit icon on

2) Click on the square and a selection screen comes up that shows all units in that square which are a valid target for that spell.

3) Click on the little shield icon in front of the unit icons

Much like what happens when you click on the little shield icon next to the units in a city.   It pops up the "Stationed Units" selection screen so you can select which units to "eject" from the city.

So now it could pop up a "Choose Target" popup that is identical to the "Stationed Units" popup.

Just steal the implementation from Age of Wonders.

That makes the most intuitive sense to me.

Could we please get some response from the developers on this?  For me this seems like a really big user interface problem.  Having to separate units out from stacks to cast buff spells on them can really change the course of the game, as it can slow down the movement of a stack hugely.

I bitched about this a few months ago.  Glad to see it raised again.

I wish it was in the actual fixes, but its going to take some work so I couldn't get it into today's build.  But its on my short list for things we need to fix.
