This is a general idea. There have been some complaints about how there's too few bonus resources. I like the idea of tying them into adventure tech tree, which is already in the game, but there are some problems with this right now, which need to be resolved I believe. This should all be doable in 1.1
I'd rather keep the bonus resources low to start, and have them unlocked through the adventure tree. Goodie huts/quests should be added at some point to reveal maps resources as well at lvl 1/2. This would also help balance.
a) Pacing. Tech costs in the early game will be too high if the resources are low. You probably should lower tech costs some in the early game, though mid/late game is probably fine (I crash before then usually)
The fact that you can game it by having others explore the tech, and you'll see the resources. This will require a more complicated fix, which I'll suggest below:
The Resource discovery techs- they will reveal the given resources across the map, to the player alone. They remain invisible to the other player, unless built- then they are visible.
The problem with this, is that players and AIs would build the wrong improvements on said resources. I'd say allow that, but
a) 10% shot of "accidentally" discovering the resource upon construction
No bonus unless the resource collector is built.
c) AI would make a high priority to "fix" wrong improvements being made on bonus resources (secondary only to building on unclaimed)
I think this would be the best way to put all this into the game, keep the flavor and the pacing.
