Elemental AI wars

Some may remember Core Wars an old game where you wrote computer programs that competed for memory and CPU on a virtual computer.

Well if Stardock do make it possible in the future to python script AI; I suggest an Elemental AI war tournament. Not only will it be fun for would be AI programmers to submit an AI to the contest it would also allow stardock to publish the most effective AI winners for the single player game.

The rules would be simple the game would be played out between AI's only submitted by entrants and each contest documented on Stardocks web site. It could be played out in a number of rounds with 4 AI's in each match with the winner going on to the next round (I think 4 is a good number).

Any other nerds out there think this sounds fun.

Actually it'd be great to see a semi-official AI tournament organised by SD. Then they could take the winning AI and see what they could use to improve the 'standard' AI. With the user's permission of course :-).

Yes that's just what I had in mind, myself if I developed an AI that was good enough for them to use in the game, I'd be happy for them to use it. Because I'd do it for fun not money. I'm a bit of a hobby programmer anyway.

You can actually already watch AIs battle it out in-game.

start the game through a shortcut and add -cheat to the link, then press ctrl-c when you start a game. Your sovereign will be teleported to out of reach in the water ( http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/4119/elemental1290023752.jpg ) and turns will automatically end until you press ctr-c again.

All we need is AI hooks (and replays).
