Better buy it before midnight instead of waiting around for answer, lest you miss your chance.

two expansion packs? Didn't know elemental had any expansions yet? where are they and how much are they?

I also bought today to get in under the deadline (less then an hour to go until midnight here). The developer has said all who buy in October get the next 2 future expansions free. This is to reward those that bet on the future success of this game IMO.
@ Gizmet: They are talking of future expansion packs. These haven't been released yet so you are not missing anything. The first expansion will be free for everyone. A second expansion is free for those who bought, AND VALIDATED the game by Oct 31.
I hope no-one becomes disappointed if they bought the game in these last hours, but don't get the free xp. You need to have updated the game via Impulse in order to validate the purchase. If you updated the game in time, then you are good to go. But if you didn't, you might not qualify. I'm not sure what happens if you bought the game directly through Impulse but failed to update (seems that an Impulse purchase should suffice as a timestamp). Having to validate through downloading an update seems reasonable to me. Verifying purchases made in stores and though Amazon etc would be a challenging and time+money consuming process. I hope no-one becomes disappointed or thinks they got screwed if they failed to update in time.
I've gotten some extra weekend work these last couple weeks and was gonna buy the game before the deadline. But I decided to wait till after since I never experienced any of the early builds. I'd have liked to get the deal; but Stardock has been so totally reasonable and responsible about all this, that I didn't want to take advantage of this most awesome product support. I was gonna buy the game all along afterall. I was just waiting till I had the extra cash. Hehe I was tempted though. And I see nothing wrong with anyone else buying to beat the deadline. My decision and reasoning to wait only applies to me ;~p
There is no chance to update the game if you bought it directly through impulse as you already download the updated version. So I suppose this should not be a problem, otherwise I would be really angry.
Well, no offense but, they claim that in september, around the 15 IIRC. It's about 1 month and a half. First time they annonce a deal, it was all who purchase before 1.3 had the first expansion free, after it change for all who purchase the game get the first expansion free AND those who purchase it before 1.1 get the second free too. Now, they change it for before 31 oct.I don't know if you're talking for yourself or the other, but everybody who known the game came out the 24 august should be aware from a long time ago about this deal. But, if you purchase it via impulse, I think you're ok since they get the time of your purchase... so yeah I guess they will let you get the two expansion if you've bought it before the end of october.
There should not be, as the deal with updating was so they would have a record of you having the game by the deadline. If you get it and download via Impulse it comes out to the same thing.
I presume we need to register it also before midnight? I bought a hard copy several weeks ago.

As long as you downloaded an update at some point prior to October 31, 2010 you're set.
Right now, everyone who buys as of November 1st 2010 still gets the first expansion pack we're working on for free. These expansion packs are more akin to GalCiv II level expansions (they're not micro expansions).
^^^ WOOT! I got a free expansion afterall. Bought the game yesterday (has it really been a day?). I couldn't stop playing. I just realized it's approaching 5am... I'm normally waking up about now. Fun game, kept me up all night. OMT for sure! I've just been playing the cloth map since the PC I'm currently using doesn't have a graphics card. I'm actually surprised I was even able to play that. Can't wait to get my PC running again so I can play the game in full. If the cloth map is this much fun, and if this v1.09e build is just scratching the surface of what EWoM will be... well then I surely have many more sleepless nights ahead of me! Thanks SD! I look forward to the future.
whiteelk, you might have to invest in a 'back armour' to protect your back from your 'pretty kitty' wanting to be fed and letting you know by climbing your back, my cyats(17 pound and 20 pound LARGE cats) do this to me when I play for too long.

Hey, How come my EWoM did not come with any cats? I play all night (or all day) and no cats bother me. I feel so left out. Its SO U N F A I R !!!! You get cats with your purchase of EWoM and I didn't.
I know i updated in time for the expansion packs. But no cats?
Over at other places, people are wondering if they bought and registered the game prior to the due date (and can prove it), but didn't download an update- if they would also get the free xp's. I really think they should, since they also give you the money before the deadline, and haven't really played it due to the problems- so if you're compensating us, I think they should get it also.
Just curious about 2 things.
1. What "other places"?
2. Why would people NOT update it... outside of lack of internet.. which would probably mean they couldn't get the expansions as I imagine the "free expansions" will be via impulse download only.
If you didn't register, then you don't get it. Not too hard to register and why wouldn't you? But, I am not all seeing or all knowing, so there might be a perfectly good explanation...
harpo
Since the expansion packs will be DLC anyway, if you don't have internet you won't be able to download the DLC.
I fail to see the issue of having to register your game in order to be eligible for the DLC. Though having to update the game is sorta weird. I would just imagine tying it to an Impulse account would be good enough.
The reason is understandable: To make sure you bought the game before the deadline.
If you went on Impulse at all, you should be good. If someone hasn't done that, and owned the game- odds are they aren't getting the expansions anyway, and have been playing/not playing a terribly broken game for months. (the gold version)
As long as you've opened up Impulse at some point with Elemental in there you're fine. The point is that as long as there is some entry somewhere showing you bought Elemental prior to October 31. In a pinch, a store receipt would do the trick but that would require manual (i.e. talk to a human) intervention.
