regarding the ability to open up other maps with a quest

I didn't want to put this in the mod section, because it became more a question in my mind about the interface. Would it be possible to have a hero stack visit a location which would start a quest, or activate a "doorway" which opens up the second map, be it inside a cave or somewhere else.

The tricky part I am trying to figure out can you go back and forth between this other map and the main map/cloth map where your cities are etc, or would this be handled simply be clicking on the unit button on the left side of the screen. Is it not possible to have these maps/ units open and running, moving around at the same time, or do we have to wait for the hero unit stack to finish exploring the "cave" before we can go back to the main map/ cloth map ?

Its in there now partially. If you create an encounter you can specify a map. I'll see if I can find an example.

Perhaps i wasn't clear in the manner i explained.

lets try this:

 

group 1 explores the coastline.

group 2 explores an innercontinental forest.

group 3  finds a mushroom ring in the middle of the great plains.

 

next turn, cycling through are units:

group 1 attacks and enemy city discovered on the coastline. Battle ensues.

group 2 picks up the contents of a treasure chest in the big dark forest.

group 3 steps into the ring and discovers themselves somewhere else, which they begin to explore (they happen to be a scout unit with a high movement score).

we cycle back and forth between the units to gaze fondly on our cities and the sea of colours on the cloth map, and compare the different foliage of the new area to the well known place from whence they came.... (lions and tigers and bears...)

edit: so would these two areas be on the same map but distinct zones, or did we open up a second map and we are flipping back and forth between them.

At the moment, it looks like it's only possible to specify a specific tactical battle map (for example, see the level 5 quests file which is the Master Quest. One of the fights there specifies a tactical battle map to load). It is to my knowledge not possible to open a main game map with a tile trigger - and I'm fairly certain there's no way to "teleport" a unit that discovers a portal thing. If there was, you could just make the locations on the same map but otherwise unreachable..
