We need a way to setup our own forces in battle like "tactics" from HOMM V

instead of the random setup we're getting now... i often find my best armies in the back of the pack...argh.

Or at the very least, a way to setup the army outside combat, like it was done in heroes even without "tactics" (front line, back line)

I agree about formations.  I think that it's what's missing in tactical combat.

This game is a RPG, a city SIM and a Wargame. It has the potential to attract people who are oriente toward any of these genres.

I'd love formations but it bet certain people would be bored by the concept of doing things that slow down the pace of a game that is already slow. I think this game neep OPTIONS to do all sort of stuff, no single direction is the good one.

But yeah, I am a wargamer and since now the combat starts to have a form I agree that we need to work details like that!

End of Black-Knight's quote
Formations should be optional.  SO when you select a game, you have the option of turning it on/off.

I don't see why it should be optional in the start game menu if it can be easily ignored even if implemented to all.

It can be implemented in a very simple way:

You have 10 slots to place units.

First 5 are front line, the others are in the back.

The only thing left is the ability to switch the order of the units in the army and to have an option for a blank space.

Don't want to use the ability? just use the default and don't bother changing the unit order, that way units enter the army in the first open place (more or less the way things are done now).

The random formation is just very annoying and doesn't have any sense. We need to have formation options either outside or in combat.

Someone just posted screenies and info about tactictal battles from a game called romance of the kingdoms, or something like that.  looked like some awesome ideas for tac.

regarding those who don't like tac battles, please use the auto resolve.  Please DON"T campaign to take away tac options from those who like them.  It's one of the reasons I like where EWoM is going: the mix of tactics, operational issues, strategy, magic, and quests.

Yeah, my first turn is always setting up the army the way I like it.  I was thinking a quick solution might be to set up the army for the next battle the way it was set up at the end of the first turn.  Wouldn't work though for anyone that goes charging right into battle.  I wait for the AI to arrive.

The advatage of allowing the placement of troops during a 'tactics' phase over assigning outside of battle is then each tactical map can define where the troops can be placed, which can be a good thing for TC maps with interesting designs.
