Two NPCs in same square

Don't know if anyone else has encountered this, but I'm seeing more than one NPC moving together with some frequency.  Unhappily, when this is the case, I can't recruit either of them.  Hovering the cursor over their square brings up the "negotiation" bubble, but right-clicking does nothing.

have you tried clicking on the square, then clicking on the individual NPC's  and recruiting them?

Thanks.  I'll give that a try.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but I couldn't get it to work.  Right-clicking, the usual way to "speak" with an NPC, fails to do anything.  Left-clicking selects the square, but then it is no longer possible to "speak" with an NPC, since one of your characters must be selected in order to do so.

If you are currently controlling a unit that can hire an NPC, you can left-click on the NPC stack, then go to the tab for unit actions and a hire button should be available.

I have found in this instance that if there are 2 NPCs, the hire button reflects the cost of only one NPC in the tooltip, but you need to have enough Gildar to hire both for the button to not be grayed out.  So it's a bit of a guessing game to know how much Gildar you actually need to recruit them both.

That's my recollection, anyway.

My best guess is that there's some algorithm for how NPCs move, and in certain situations they end up getting on the same tile and then they just keep together in the flow of the algorithm and never split again.  That's only a guess, though.

Last night I had a stack of five pop up, I recruited the leadrer of the group, and got all five to join me.

Think I paid 300ish for Lvl 4 Bard, 2 +1 gold, 1 +1 tech, and a adventurer.

The Bard was the leader. I have also seen the groups of two mulitple times, If you can afford to recruit the leader you will get both for his price.

Ok, that worked.  I'd never hired NPCs that way.
